Miele DW--does it have to be installed by authorized installer?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a Miele dishwasher soon and also want to get the 5 years extended warranty provided by Miele. But on the warranty fine print it says the DW has to be installed by authorized installer. Do I have to pay extra to find an authorized installer to do the job so I can get the warranty? (I was planning on having my contractor do the installation job but apparently he's not on the authorized list)

You're either going to pay the contractor or you're going to pay (some extra) for Miele to install. I have had a number of problems with Miele, including horrible customer service, but they did (eventually) solve the issues. I would rather have the Miele warranty than a 3rd party one. My Mieles were not installed by Miele, but they were still covered under the extended warranty (perhaps because the issues were not caused by incorrect installation?)

Surely. Miele likely requires confirmation of the install to enact the warranty extension.

Thanks. I looked again so it seems even for the one year warranty comes with the DW also requires authorized installer!

By the way anyone has experience with the Squaretrade extended warranty provided by Abt?

"MAP" is only a lower limit on what they can advertise, not what they can actually charge. The dealer should be able to sell you the machine for whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't undercut other dealers by advertising such a price. Of course, a dealer might choose to charge the MAP, or even the MSRP, but if he tells you that he can't go lower because of MAP then either he is passing the buck, or Miele is violating the Sherman Act. - DR

@ chris03 Ensure that the shipping struts are NOT removed until the machine is in your laundry room. Sometimes installers will remove them on the truck, and this is not a good practice. There are lots of bumps between the truck and your laundry room. Keep the struts in place until you are as close to the final location as possible. Make sure that the machines are properly leveled. Ensure you see the installers use a bubble level and verify for yourself that the units are perfectly leveled before the installers leave. Miele says you should run a sanitary cycle before first use. Start that cycle before the installers leave to confirm the cycle is working. Install the units downstairs. I hope you are using Miele authorized installers. If you are in the US, that will get you a 2nd year added to your warranty. If you bought any extended warranties, make sure it's a Miele extended warranty and not some third party excuse for a warranty.

I don't have a miele, but I did have a FL under the counter for twenty years and, yes, it did give me a lot of very useful flexible space. And I had no problem with it being at that level. After we moved I inherited a TL which recently quit. I replaced it with a FL and almost talked myself into thinking I would need a pedestal at my advancing age. Fortunately Wa8b talked me out of it. That said, your Miele looks to be an awesome machine, but at 39 inches high (and more, adding the thickness of a counter)it will be very high for a regular counter. Your 5 and 6 year olds would need to sit on bar stools at the least. And you'd have to get very creative to deal with the controls access issue.

I'd simply ask what experience he has installing the windows you are considering. "Factory Authorized" installer may not mean anything more that someone sat through a 5 hour course. I would lean heavily towards someone with a lot of experience with whatever window you end up choosing.

We installed our Mieles ourselves, and one didn’t work from the beginning. We had a warranty repair, and they didn’t even ask about the installation.

I installed mine and my friends but no problems so no warranty or service.

IIRC, the standard warranty does not require them to install it.

Thanks all. Now I just need to decided go with store extended warranty(not have to worry about authorized installation at all) or Miele’s own extended warranty(that I guess they probably won’t question about the installation but you never know!).

@sherri1058. Thanks. Now I'm sure I will just ask my contractor to install it. It's included in his fee already so I don't need to pay extra. The Miele warranty is $200 more than 3rd party..that's why I cannot make up my mind if it will worth it..
