Can you recommend some companions for my hostas?
Comments (26)lindann, that sounds beautiful. Do you have a photo? Corydalis, I think I saw a variety called Chocolate Star or something similar, really caught my fancy. I'm having trouble with screen names, but the person who did that nice demo series for WS'ing sowed some hosta seeds, looked like she'd saved some. I've put off getting much more hosta but ordered a couple. One I'm afraid I'll be disappointed in, looked so pretty in the online photo. Then I googled for more photos, and it didn't look that terrific. It's called Heavenly Tiara. Actually I have a nice place for hosta and other plants you named but have hesitated planting there because I like to be able to walk thru there with the hose and lots of reasons and it's where I put most of my WS containers. Guess that wouldn't hurt if I move them soon enough....See MoreBlue hosta recommendations
Comments (11)i guess it depends where in MI ... lol ... seriously.. where are you??? if you have some money .. and want a nice conifer/hosta field trip.. track down tom schmid in jackson MI ... a bit pricey ... but size matters... no matter what she says.. lol ... now.. what size hosta do you want... small ... blue mouse ears.. see other post .. medium .. any of the eric smith hosta... hadspen blue comes to mind .. moving toward big ... deep blue sea ... there are of course.. a million others ... give us a better idea of what 'type or size' and i am sure others will chime in ken PS: and if you want to come adrian MI way ... try hidden lakes gardens.... for spectacular conifer and hosta gardens.. and if you come that far.. i am only 12 more mins away .... i MIGHT have a few things that you would like to look at ... PPS: the blue is a wax coating.. which wears off as the season goes on .. especially if watered overhead ... so, much nursery stock can look all green due to the rough handling .......See Morerecommend a mid-sized, vigorous, all-gold hosta?
Comments (3)August Moon is a good choice. It's very hardy, grows well anywhere, and looks good all season. Also readily available and very reasonably priced. It's a true medium in size. If you want something a bit larger, Fried Bananas is an outstanding hosta. It's more a chartreuse than a gold, but a lovely color, grows like a weed, has huge, fragrant flowers, and will take anything from full shade to full sun. It does need about 1/2 sun to bloom well. Other choices are Rising Sun, a very pretty hosta with a good growth rate, Excitation, which is interesting all season and looks great well into the fall, May, the solid gold sport of June, English Sunrise, another gold June sport which is decidedly not the same as May, Zounds, slower to mature and on the large side, but quite attractive, and Midas Touch, which is a lovely hosta with excellent corrugation. If you want something a bit on the smaller side, consider Gold Edger, Gold Drop, or Gumdrop, or Amber Tiara. All are listed as smalls, but will reach a mature height of 12-14 inches. You can also browse the Hosta Library listing under Gold or Golden to get an idea of what's out there, but many of those plants are difficult to find. Everything listed above is readily available for a reasonable price and will grow well....See MoreSoffit and ridge vent for cape code for continuous ridge vent
Comments (15)I'm still not clear what you're planning to do. Are you putting the insulation on the floor of the attic, or under the deck of the roof, covering the entire underside of the roof? If on the floor of the attic, you need some kind of baffles from the soffit opening up to and a bit beyond the top of the insulation, so that it doesn't get into the space and block the air flow. If you're putting insulation on the underside of the roof, you'll need baffles all the way from the bottom to the ridge vent so that there's a free flow of air under the insulation from the soffit to the roof. Here's a video that's of value to illustrate first putting baffles on the underside of the roof, before adding insulation on the underside of the roof....See Moresteve duggins(Z6a) - Central Ohio
