I need some computer help please

I had my computer hooked up in my new apartment last Friday. I use Windows 8.1 on a Dell computer. I use Firefox. All was okay until this afternoon. Without anything going on that I know of, when I start typing in the search bar, it immediately starts 'typing' in stuff. I opened up the menu bar (3 little bars in upper right hand corner), but there's no 'settings' option. I've search for some way to correct this, but nothing is working for me. I had this happen several yrs ago and someone helped me, but don't remember how.

Also, I have a hard wired modem. I can see that several people in this complex show they have wifi. Please help me feel secure that no one can be using my internet connection. (May sound stupid, but that's my anxiety kicking in).

Click the "Firefox" button on the top left corner of the browser and hover your mouse cursor over "Options." Click "Options" and then click the "Privacy" tab. Select "Nothing" from the "When using the location bar, suggest" drop-down list in the Location Bar section. Click "OK" to commit to the changes.

You do have your internet secured with a password, right? If it is a hard to guess password you should be fine.

That is the auto complete option.

Turning off Autofill in Firefox
1. Click on the Firefox menu icon. (Three lines at top right of screen.)
2. Click on Options.
3. Choose the Privacy icon.
4. In the History section choose Firefox will: “Use custom settings for history.”
5. Uncheck “Remember search and form history.”
6. Click OK.

They bloom in fall and winter -- that is the great thing about them! And you have picked two nice varieties. Here is a link to some planting tips. (See below.) The main thing I have found is to plant them high in a wide but shallow hole, so they will not later sink below grade. And use plenty of good planting mix (it is worth it). I clicked on the link in the other thread. The page is Java driven, so they have to make sure they have Java. There are two different Java downloads. So sorry that I cannot remember the difference between them or their individual purposes. If I'm not mistaken, there are Java Script and Java Runtime Environment, but don't hold me to those. I found it very confusing but was able to get them both downloaded. That was many months ago, so I don't remember. After you get them downloaded, you want to make sure to enable them in your browser. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab Here's a pic of mine

Pricing's all over the board, so I can't tell you what they should cost if someone else makes them. Some will charge more or less than me. In a previous post, I guesstimated (and it is a guess without knowing all the specifics), I said I would charge aprox. $3,000 for labor and linings. Add to that probably around another $1,000 for fabric, so maybe around $4,000 (plus tax where I live). So, the $1,475 really is cheap for this and the reason they look the way they look. You've gotten a lot of tips thru all these posts telling you how they show have been made. I don't think there's any mills left in the US that make fabric, however, you would have been better to use someone here to make them. But as in my guesstimate, you would have paid a lot more.

What Cynic meant by "You might not have selected the option to make it available for all users. was that you need to put the icon in the All Users profile. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop Anything that is in the All Users profile will be available to each individual person who has a profile on that computer. If you just put it into one specific profile -- whether it's the Administrator, you, your husband, etc., it will only be available to that person. Since you said that you were "in the administrators side of the system" when you dragged it to the Desktop, it's only available to the Administrator. So, you can just go back in as the Administrator, go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop, right click on it and choose Copy, then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop and right click anywhere there's empty space and then choose Paste.

On the wifi list you should see if it says secure. You should have yours say wpa2 for security. If you see that you are good. Just seeing other names in the wifi list doesn't mean they can get in your computer.

I seem to just make things worse. All mine says is internet 5 connected. Plus when I do the autocomplete like you say, raven, it still doesn't change it. There's no button to click for OK. So next I try to do the Firefox for auto suggest, I cannot for the life of me find the Firefox icon. If I can find it, maybe I can get that part changed. Have to go for now. Will check back later.

Try a different browser and see if same outcome. Last resort, check key board to see if "gunk" is stuck between keys....just turn upside down and shake.
