Are Wolf and SubZero worth the price?
Comments (10)Having moved frequently I have had KA, Miele, sub zeroes , may tag and GE refrigerators. The present home's built in was a subzero that failed after 15 years. Shopping around I bought a subzero for just under 9 thousand this past summer. The prices were 8700 with free delivery, 9700 plus a 250 delivery charge, and another store was charging 9700 with free delivery. I had assumed that all stores were selling the unit at the same cost. Husband was pissed that I had to spend so much. I had looked at monogram and LG units along with a few other refrigerator but either I did not like the shelves or the replacement fridge would not fit in the refrigerator cabinet. Back in 2000 I had to replace another failed subzero that was 16 years old. The price at this time was 3 grand. I was stunned to see the six thousand inflation price. I owned a small Miele with a single door and under freezer. The unit was only five feet high but held a nice assortment of groceries while keeping the food fresh for days. This small Miele held more groceries than a side by side GE refrig I had when living in Atlanta. Bigger does not mean better! Having had side by sides and the single door panel I prefer the Miele and the subzero. What makes the difference is shelving space. The subzero is designed to hold a huge amount of food so I can pack a turkey along with all the holiday prep in the subzero whereas with the side by side I had to use the garage shelving as my back up refrig. I live in the northeast so temps are below freezing by November . A few times I had to scramble placing the garage store good in coolers when the temperatures hit fifty. There are many spacious refrigerators out there that are lower in cost than a sub zero but I found that it was only a two grand price difference . I could have bought a less expensive fridge but it would have sat bizarre in the kitchen cabinet. I love my subzero but there are other great options on the market that function just as well. I strongly believe that the single or french door refrigs give you the best use of space and having the freezer below is also an easy stock option. I trimmed by monthly expenses for a few weeks to negate my subzero just to calm the hubby down. Think of buying your fridge with how you will use it and what you can afford. Good luck...See MoreLiehberr vs Sub Zero
Comments (8)30" Leibherr owner here, now for 4 years with never a problem. I looked at the SubZero, but didn't like the freezer drawer thing: You have to stand to one side to find anything, and I'm much happier with the Leibherr set-up with several drawers, all of which are lightweight enough to lift out onto the counter to sort out, if necessary! We don't use ice, except very occasionally, so I use the icemaker drawer to store stuff in too. I'm one who much prefers the Leibherr door too, with the 'assist' of the lever pushing the door opening. I've used SubZeros and find my arm aches all the time, opening them, plus I know elderly relatives would have problems with it. I find the Leibherr layout to be excellent, and perhaps as a Brit, I am more used to the interior styling. You can store a gallon of milk in the door (most people don't realise it will fit). At 5'3" I have no problem reaching the top shelf either. And we fit all the Thanksgiving leftovers in there too! - it just takes some creative arranging. I did switch to rectangular storage boxes, instead of round bowls though: it's much more efficient in the freezer, and can even slide comfortably under the wine rack....See MoreRicklish, question on intregrated sub zero
Comments (15)Well - here it is! It's all done except for the toe kick and the apron in front of it. My GC said 'it wasn't so bad.' Took him about a day and a half. He said the install templates included with the doors would have been perfect for overlay doors. The problem with the inset doors was having enough room above the top of the doors to create the appropriate reveal without exposing the lower panel bracket. He did have the panels on and off repeatedly to get them aligned just so. I think they look great! Here is the DW panel. Not what I was expecting (I thought the beading would wrap around the panel like it does on the other doors, but was told that it was virtually impossible to do with the beading around the inset panels without making the panel too heavy for the DW. We have learned to accept it as is. Big day tomorrow, the replacement cabinets (for the ones that were a smidge too big) are due to arrive tomorrow with my GC. Then I'm getting stoned on Wednesday!! Thursday should be the remaining upper cabs and trim work and Friday is the final poly on the floors. Pics to follow!! Of course, with all the (minor) delays we've had, I'm not holding my breath. But at this point, I'm cautiously optimistic that I could be vacating my temporary kitchen this weekend!! Yipee!!...See MoreSub-Zero has to be kidding
Comments (100)I'm still not understanding that everyone seems to think that companies should offer discounts??? The promotion is basically a thank you purchasing more than one appliance. If you're being met by sales people pushing it like its a selling feature than go to another dealer. I sell these appliances and don't even tell people about this promotion until after they purchase then I say "when we deliver your appliances you can go online and register to pick out a couple of free appliances for your counter as a thank you" That is what it was designed for. A discount should only matter if you have already planned on buying the exact product it's offered on. Otherwise you are ONLY buying due to a discount not really weighing the benefit and value of the product. Plus most of the appliance companies do free bee like a free dishwasher.... Did you ever stop to review that free product? It's usually the one they sell the least because it's inferior to the other brands. Why is love to know when the discounting started and why so many consumers think that everything should be on sale in order to purchase? Here's an equation: The lowest price doesn't =the best quality...See MoreV Barr
