Comments (2)Don't put the TV over the fireplace. Your necks will thank you, and you've got a great spot for it on the back of the garage wall. I also wouldn't buy a sectional. It will limit your furniture arrangements and no one ever sits in the corner anyway. Two sofas or a sofa and chairs are much more versatile, and the kids are going to want to lay all over the floor and on poufs....See MoreWhite or Black Windows for Modern Farmhouse Style
Comments (39)@BT Great question and not to hijack this thread but since you asked: The hip roof has long span trusses and girders. My entire design was a slight overkill since we are also in a siesmic region. I wanted vast open span living and garage spaces with no posts or visible supports. Even though I subsequently enlisted a top local engineering company for their final design and stamp, I upgraded foundation and roofing members. The same design went into our 55' long and deep garages, creating a sense of open and free space. The foundation was another piece of engineering where I chose a post and pier foundation in the 5' high crawl space, and boy is it solid; it contributes to an extremely solid floor, on slab like foundation feel in the entire home....See MoreModern+Farmhouse+Coastal? Comments (7)very nice room. The rug and that chair work, the sofa in the white is meh. (definite no in that gray color). but I think you can do better. I would have gone w/crisper whites and blacks and warmer grays. Maybe that PB rug is nicer in person, but in the photo the color looks really muddy. I like the ones in this pic,,,deep charcoal, whites, grays, touch of light aqua.. and this table For rug, I'd do a coloring like this one, or some of the others in the pics I love your floors and thing you should bring in some wood in your sofa, even if it is on the modern side. Like this: A walnut, style sofa like this, in a navy, charcoal, very light gray,,,would be perfect more blacks/charcoal, crisp whites, some texture, don't know what the plans are for the sides of the fireplace, but here are some ideas...See MoreHow Would You Handle This Living Room/Dining In Farmhouse Theme?
Comments (66)Justin, we built a house in 1985 that reminds me a lot of your house. I really struggled with finding and placing furnishings that fit the scale and drama and rather oddly shaped spaces ( that we specified). We now live in a small farmhouse on a small horse farm. White plastered walls, white painted trim.Much easier. May I suggest you look at Texas Hill Country farmhouses for inspiration? They tend to be strongly defined but simple, sometimes incorporating "Spanish" elements, if you like those. ( This is kind of random, I do think your front door should be changed. It doesn't seem to fit either farmhouse or the house, in my opinion. You can do better.) PS. In this soaring space, pay close attention to your fixture choices. I think the one shown in this Hill Country house would fit well, for example, but the right scale, no matter the style, will really make a difference....See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
