I just bought the pendants!!!
Comments (11)I am so excited!!! Those pendants are so pretty (as is everything in your kitchen) and I'm just so glad you listened to your heart and realized it was the pendants which said "I'm yours!" redroze, I felt the same way when I bit the bullet and got the marble of my dreams -- it makes me happy every time I look at it (and I look at it lots). You'll feel the same way, every time you enter your kitchen you'll see those pendants and smile because you know how much went into making that decision. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your kitchen ... wait, your whole house, I mean! Thank you for your kind words. (Oh, about Forest Hills Village -- you're right, Toronto is so multicultural and that's one of the things we adore about it. But Forest Hills was too homogeneous for my husband and, maybe, one day for our sons. [I never want them to be in a school where they can say: "Yeah, there's another Asian kid here -- my brother!])...See MoreWhat's the next design trend????
Comments (40)Thanks. Its funny because since I had mine with a small bevel like I mentioned before, and my painters had caulking in the corners to make them smooth, I guess I accidentally ended up with easy to clean ones because of these minor edits. I also think it has something to do with the prep work, at least for job built ones, I have been in some flip houses where they did those cabinets and I think the finish is fairly rough and the paint on them is fairly thin which would drive future issues like you are highlighting. Thinking about the initial thought of the style differences, regardless of whether both are kitchens or not, there are some basic style things I am thinking about on which is longer lasting. Most notable, White walls and baseboards vs. light walls with dark baseboards. Light floors vs. dark floors. ORB vs. Chrome. I like both, but have a personal preference of the two, but I don't know that it will ever be the most popular. The last thing I am thinking is that if I were to go with the white on white I would probably do different ceiling details than if I do the one with light walls and dark baseboards. (one more square ceilings than the other one). What I am learning here is to make things easy to change be the trendy part. Maybe pay a little more for the floors if they ever need to be refinished you can do that instead of getting floors so thin they can't be refinished etc. Anyway - thoughts not the style differences I noted?...See MoreFinishing touches: Backsplash and Pendant Help
Comments (19)Yes, definitely honest opinions are appreciated since we don't want to make an expensive mistake! I won't be offended. Ericakn, would you recommend a basic ivory subway, or something else? You summarized my thoughts well, Czarinalex. I normally skip over mosaics when shopping because I do not like the high contrast or flashiness of most. I think that is the same reason I did not like the carrara herringbone sample I set up at home...it looked fine with the granite, but it had nothing to really coordinate or complement the cabinets...so too much contrast for me. Ultimately, we would like to cover the brick fireplace in the FR with stacked stone, so even though I did not go looking for mosaic, I am hoping this particular tile shape on the backsplash would also be a good option to tie the FR and kitchen together. Inspiration pic for FR fireplace (maybe different stone colors, have not shopped yet): Thanks, everyone! Comments (36)Idee , I think you are on the right track in wanting to add some chandeliers here . The juxtaposition of rustic, like your wood ceiling, farm table and antique sideboard with a little glam ( consider adding a couple of gleaming copper pieces in decor ) will give that french quarter New Orleans vibe. Sending some inspiration pics. for colors to consider painting your cabs. (either all ,or maybe a mix with white uppers and diff. lowers, or painting the perimeter white and the island a color ). Think about gray- green, pale sage, teal blue or black. I would paint your walls a soft white , just a slightly diff. hue from your white trim, since your space appears somewhat dark. I would use a rustic tile backsplash or possibly a brick tile. For counters consider a light butcher block or a honed dark stone like dark Emperador marble, soapstone or leathered granite. So, —light fixtures, painted cabinets, the countertops and backsplash- nothing structural- hopefully you could achieve this in your budget ... ? ( maybe try to include a copper sink or some other type of new sink while doing the counters) .—- The inspiration pics. show many of these individual elements . The following focus on cabinetry colors. -...See MoreAshley Smith zone 5a
