Design Around This #2- Artwork Inspired Room
Comments (127)Pal - I thought same as Annie....Naaaaw not Kincade! I actually really liked the floral painting in your design though. I came across it in one of my searches last night. Humph, but I already forget now the artists name! This is such a great exercise for the mind. Mine has been really REALLY out of shape for years. "Personally embellished". Ha! Now we know his technique for achieving the shimmering highlights of morning dew glistening of each leaf or that diamond glint on a trickling brook. His DNA signed works cost extra. I remember as a teen going to a Kincade gallery. It was in the Mall. It was like walking into a dark cavern. The paintings would have small picture lights above each. But some special works had tiny lights embedded somehow behind the frame so the street lamps and house windows lit up. Now that is realism! Annie - That's awesome! The houzz pics droopy chair is absolutely perfect. Cawaps - I love your interpretation room! The ant on the red half round table is my favorite. I want to try my own, but I am not sure how you guys do these. I am using an iPad. Does anyone know if there is an apple app to make these boards? I will look, but for now I will watch and learn. Thanks jlc for starting this thread. I love the ideas of DAT based on your pet, a song or musician, and the craigslist one sounds really fun....See MoreApartment living room help- design around grey couch
Comments (12)Thank you so much for all these ideas. I have eclectic taste but like contemporary, midcentury modern, global, a mix of these or other styles. For the space the astro console looks super cute. Here are some random things i've been collecting in carts that I like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N79WZFS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (I like rust color- don't know how to coordinate with grey etc.... but can swing to blue, red , green, darker grey, etc.) https://www.westelm.com/products/phoebe-chair-s2643/?pkey=e%7Cphoebe%2Bchair%7C3%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C3&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH (red could be nice too-just don't know how to tie in coordinating colors in the room) This coffee table looks neat but then what kind of console to get and is white the better color to design around or is taupe, dark brown better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QUE7NFK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_12?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Here it is in cement color: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBF5JHF/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_16?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0 I was hoping to decorate wall or nick naks with mediative/mind-body items like a painting of buddha or lotus and or horse painting. https://www.houzz.com/products/marmont-hill-fire-horse-by-irena-orlov-painting-on-wrapped-canvas-24x16-prvw-vr~84354093 https://www.icanvas.com/canvas-print/sitting-buddha-val346#1PC3-40x26 https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Charm-Peaceful-Decoration-Artwork/dp/B01MYGO95D/ref=sr_1_11?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1507078846&sr=1-11&keywords=lotus+print Thanks so much for the ideas! Comments (8)On Facebook recently, I recall seeing a soft crochet ball being used as an ottoman. Something like that would be safe for a toddler. Would NOT invest in a rug -- too easy for a toddler to trip over. Small room doesn't need it. You could decorate the room by focusing on decorating the walls. For the corner to the left of the door, a wood two drawer file cabinet could double as an end table rather -- solid and heavy than something lighter that could be pulled over. Then push your sofa against that. Plants and toddlers don't usually mix well. You could add a bracket for a flower hanging basket above the fixed side of your patio door -- hung out of reach of your toddler. You might try one flower in a very large, tall, heavy pot placed in front of the fixed side of your patio door to see if you can train the toddler to leave your plants alone. Wouldn't invest in more till you can get your toddler trained. You might also be able to find an adult sized bean bag chair -- no hard sharp edges -- in addition to a colorful bean bag chair especially for your toddler. For additional lighting, consider wall hung lamps behind your sofa rather than something that could be pulled over. https://www.lampsplus.com/products/lanett-brushed-nickel-swing-arm-plug-in-wall-lamp-set-of-2__1x503.html Since the safety of your toddler is obviously a priority, you might consider investing in a plastic toy box in lieu of a coffee table -- preferably one with a flat part that might be used as a coffee table whenever the toddler is asleep. https://www.step2.com/c/kids-furniture/toy-boxes-storage/...See Moredesigning around the ugly couch
Comments (4)We have a sectional sofa the same color. I always hated it! I couldn’t figure out how to decorate around it. We finally bought another sofa and put this ugly one in our bonus room where I didn’t really care too much how it looked. We painted the walls in the bonus room a dark indigo blue. This room is gorgeous! It is my favorite room in the house now. I don’t know how I didn’t like this sofa before. I am having a ball decorating this room now. The sofa is perfect. The right wall color changes everything....See Moregroveraxle
