Comments (7)Good advice. Browse some of the degree programs at major universities. You'll find plant pathology listed as a specific choice in some of them. Pick up a phone and call that university, or email, or write them and tell them you will be transferring in from a college where it's not offered and they'll usually be thrilled to tell you what coursework is needed. It's not too soon to start deciding what university you would be attending to finish off your degree(s). The courses will all be generally similar but when you are forking out the $$$$ and trying to make the best use of your time working toward a degree, the last thing you need to do is take courses you'll find won't fulfill degree requirements. The more specific your career goals, the less likely you are to find those courses in a community college. However, you will find counselors who will 'help' you fill in your schedule to round it out to full-time when you might be better served taking a specific one through distance learning. I've transferred in and out of five different colleges/universities through the years, and there is nothing so frustrating as having one tell you previous coursework has to be used to fulfill electives and then make you repeat a similar one in a different department....See MoreSeeking Guidance for 'Traditional/Transitional' Kitchen Faucet
Comments (21)And I will agree with jrueter and kristine2009- I have Delta and love it. I replaced my kitchen faucet with the Delta Saxony which I feel like I get a commission from recommending it so much but really its a good one and might even satisfy your style requirements. The faucets we are replacing all happen to be low grade builders models from when we built the house 20 years ago and I think only one was replaced due to a leak (and we have 4 bathrooms, kitchen sink, laundry sink you get the idea)- all the others are still functioning fine - just time to update. I would most definitely buy Delta again and I hear comparable things about Moen which is what the bathroom contractor seems to prefer. Here is a link that might be useful: delta saxony...See MoreCallings all TKOs! Seeking guidance as I start my reno.
Comments (12)Hi - Thanks for the feedback so far! benjesbride - Do you mean open the wall between kitchen and family room like in the last three plans mamagoose did? mamagoose - I was thinking along the lines of the first plan, but also wanted to move the door to the laundry over a bit to get another cabinet along the fridge wall. And extra cabinets and hopefully sink in the laundry area. My fridge is counter depth, but yes, I do plan to open that doorway up a bit next to the fridge. Although a bit hard to visualize, the more I look at it, the more I really like the 3rd plan - very open to the LR and with counter seating. I know I wouldn't have to move plumbing and electric very far, but I am concerned it would be too much $$ to flip flop the kitchen and dining area. Since I'm on a slab it wouldn't be inexpensive to move the plumbing, then once you consider venting, electric, changing out the window (so siding work), etc. it will add up so quickly. My siding is original (early 80s) aluminum siding. It needs to be painted, but otherwise is in really good shape. I don't think you can get it anymore and it's hard to work with. Any exterior changes I am concerned would morph into re-siding the whole house. If it was my forever home or if I would be here for many years, then I wouldn't hesitate, but I just don't know if it's worth it financially. I don't see myself being here more than 5 years and then it will likely be a rental. I love Martin Moore kitchens with the architechtural cabinets. He shows a lot of these shorter uppers with open shelving below it (see link). I think that might work well for me, but I don't see a lot of that done. Thank you for your ideas so far! :)...See MoreSeeking guidance with finishes
Comments (4)I happen to love black and white flooring. Might be driving crazy when cleaning though. You know yourself and how it functioned until now-you decide Any possibility to open a niche between the studs, put there unfinished long cabinet, paint it wall color? Tremendous amount of storage added. That unfinished thing will cost you 400$ or something but will be the biggest game changer I wonder if you can put a pretty towel bar at the back of your tub space..? The rest, I'll be inclined to do couple big nice hooks(they have their minuses I know) (you can see I dislike towels everywhere..although some are very pretty..but the least of them I see the best lol) then you have a space to do a pretty shelf over your toilet that will hold things in nice containers..or a flower for example..or an interesting medicine cabinet(hunt for these on Craigslist and Etsy)..or just put an art there that makes you smile As for the lighting..I'd do overhead sconce..that's what you'd have space for. Did you decide on your mirror already? Start looking for a sconce..:) Does the toilet stay? if yes I'd change the lid for a white one. same with bars etc..don't veer into too much black. Do your research. Interesting and inexpensive hardware exists. Interesting and expensive also does of course:) but the first one is cooler. The paint..oh you're lucky here. so many colors would work. Blush Pink. Mint green. Turquoise. That blue that appears on porcelaine.. Wallpaper? you can do it. What's your preferred style? can you show us the vanity? the mirror?...See Morechispa
