Suggestions for ew (and old) furniture advice and decor for new build
Comments (4)Thanks for bumping. Attached is my drawing of the main floor combining our architects preliminary plans and my suggested tweaks. There will probably be a few more changes after we meet with the architect at the end of this month. Best Views are definitly our back (creek and green belt). Althoug not noted, both front porches are also covered -- required by the architectural guidlines. Our side is the right and will have a guest suite upstairs (the small bedroom downstairs on the right is really an office with a Murphy bed. The "kids" side will have a master and another bedroom upstairs. And I'm afraid that rug won't make the cut, just a bit too floral for the style we're shooting for -- i love it though. I'm hoping to find a rug more like this:...See MoreNew furniture arrived -- Help with rug & decor!
Comments (41)I'm sorry, but I don't care for the color of the LR chairs; they somehow detract from the elegance of your living room. I would have them in a neutral color that will go with the couch, but perhaps with a more textured material. I would also choose a neutral rug, and I really like the one with the light gray lozenge shapes surrounded by a darker gray color, which has a lot of texture and presence. If the chairs had been a softer blue I think they would have worked, something like the dining chairs above in the picture with the brick wall. I would think very carefully about what colors you really love and introduce them slowly into that room. Perhaps lemon yellow or lime green pillows would be a good place to start. Frankly I like the modern, pristine look of the fireplace as it is now, although I think the TV may be too high for comfortable viewing. My style is very opposite to yours, a sort of English Country with lofts of color and paintings and Chinese porcelain, but I admire the purity of the look that you're starting with, and too much embellishment might just ruin that. I would keep any architectural elements very simple. I wouldn't choose a round coffee table because you have such a large couch, and frankly I like all the rectangular lines in this room. Please make sure that you buy a large enough rug for the living area. For the art I would choose large abstracts, if you like that kind of thing, with some warm colors in them like terracotta, yellow and greens so play off the cool tones of the furniture. Okay, since this is your home, you're free to do whatever makes you happy and feels right to you....See MoreNew to Design: Living Room + Furniture + Decor
Comments (6)thanks for writing and suggestions! The green and white subway tiles are just to give some idea of the looks and colors that are being used elsewhere in the house, as well as the brass faucets. I would like to keep somewhat to a theme throughout the home. The wallpaper pictured is the exact wallpaper in the room - and is displayed on the "tv wall" and seating area in the potential floorpan pictured. I love the look of the big, heavy drapes and sort of fell for the way they cascade on the floor.. but, open to any suggestions in ANY part of the design. The fireplace (as is) is red brick with a crown moulding surround, not the barn wood beam shown - apologies for all those suggesting! I have considered painting the brick a white or black? I do intend on using a single sofa, but can't decide on material and color. I recently came across the green leather and got a little smitten, that's why there's two sofas shown. I do not intend on using a sectional in the space but my family does a lot of lounging and insist on being able to prop their feet or lie back - my intent was to get ottomans to bring to the sofa when it is time to lounge, creating that sectional option for comfort. I definitely love the look of a wingback chair and have several in my idea book, but haven't been able to settle on a fabric or style.
