Comments (16)The Miele speed ovens will serve quite well as a microwave so long as you can live without the popcorn/defrost/dedicated functions available with one button push. The unit does have a minute plus button that will, with one push, start the microwave, so you can do a coffee reheat, melt butter, etc. But for more complex microwaving, you need to go into the menu structure to select power, duration, etc. But it is an excellent microwave. Instead of turning the food on a turntable, it turns the antenna! The big charm of the things is that they can convection bake, broil, or microwave, or all of the above, concurrently. There are modes you can dial up that will heat up the oven cavity using the heating elements and then inject some microwaves periodically, greatly speeding up the baking, but with results like the dish was baked in a standard oven. Our speed oven has taken over as the go-to oven in our house for most stuff. It won't do pizza very well (you need bottom heat for that) but for most dinners where you are serving one baked dish with sides, it rocks. Here's the deal, though. If you decide on a speed oven you will have to plan for a 220-240V circuit to power it....See MoreMiele Appliances
Comments (12)mary, i have the speed oven, master chef, induction cooktop and DW.. for over 2 years and i have to say they have been wonderful... we use the speed oven multiple times a day and it is a workhorse in our kitchen.... agree, its not the easiest to clean but if u keep up with it, it makes it much easier....glass tray is a bear to clean, but again u must keep up with it and clean it when something spills or drips or it just makes it harder when u do clean it... other than that it, its awesome and we do use the MC options and have worked wonderfully... DW, fab, clean dishes & quiet.... induction cooktop is the bomb!!! would NEVER go back to gas or electric, had both....precise temps, fast and easy to clean, what more could u want... and no, we don't miss the flame.... i say go for it!!!!...See MoreHelp! Opinions on appliance choices, esp. Miele cooktop
Comments (15)Thanks fitzski. I actually emailed Miele last week and still haven't received an answer from them, although today I talked to a Miele rep who definitively said that although they don't have an "official" release date, the induction cooktop is still slated to be available in the US by the end of 2007. However, he didn't know at first if it would have the same dimensions as the Canadian model. (I looked up all the specs for the 36" model available in Canada). After some checking, I was told that the US model should be very similar to the Canadian KM5773. The one thing I wasn't able to determine from the online manuals is the distance required beneath the unit for ventilation (how much cabinet space needs to be left clear--I was hoping to still have room for two large drawers for pots and pans). It's probably there, but even with a PhD sometimes I miss things! I'll have my DH take a look at the manuals once he is back in town. For now it seems that I should be OK to move ahead with my cabinets and plan on purchasing the Miele in the US near the beginning of the year. Thanks again for the help!...See MoreMiele or Samsung appliances
Comments (9)The big issue with Samsung is support, or lack thereof, across every product line they make, from refrigerators to TVs. The products themselves are fine. I had a 33” 11 month old Samsung refrigerator whose freezer door stopped closing properly. It was under warrantee. I called, they hemmed and hawed about the warrantee, wanted all sorts of original documentation (e.g., actual credit card receipt), and needed it uploaded multiple times. They told me that they had no repair capacity - for NY city! After 16 weeks of my following up every 4-5 days - they never got back to me -they refunded my money. In the meanwhile, I had a non-functional freezer and ended up chipping off sheets of ice with a screw driver. I was drained, I was fed up, and I was horrified that a perfectly good refrigerator that at most needed a cheap part or manual adjustment would end up in the landfill. More and more reviews I read for otherwise good products talk about non-existent or awful service. Read reviews on Home Depot, Lowe’s and other local sites and decide for yourself. And do Google Samsung support for any product. It is shameful....See Morestefaniebogles
