Miele 4840, Kenmore HE5T, Samsung 448 - Your thoughts?
Comments (3)I'm very happy with my Miele W4840. It uses the heater to guarantee wash temperature, and it has a good selection of temperatures (30degC through 70degC in 10degC increments). Can't say that about the Kenmore or Samsung. The W4840 probably still needs a sturdy floor (mine is on a very sturdy wooden floor over a basement). As for installation problems in another house, do you foresee a move in the not-too-distant future, or are you just considering all possibilities? If the latter, I wouldn't give up a great washer now because of something that might happen in the future. Anyway, if you want to be able to relocate the washer in the future without any worries about vibration, then Samsung is the only choice, from what I've read....See MoreBuying new Washer/Dryer (considering Miele, Samsung, LG)
Comments (1)It seems that you really are planning to get a Miele. If not, I have had 5 years use from a Samsung front loader. It was a frustrating experience because at first I did't know how to set it up to get clothes clean in spite of the high efficiency water and electric saving computer. Once I figured that out it has done a good job. Don't know how long it will last. It is my understanding that all modern front loaders have a much shorter life than the old top loaders (which could be counted on for 20 years of so)....See MoreThanks! Happy new Miele owner. Samsung question.
Comments (0)We have had our Miele 1215 and 1415 now for a few months and they are just fantastic. Thanks to all of you for all your help. Whether you knew it or not, I probably read some post of yours that helped me decide what to do and what to buy. To the hard core have to have complete control of every setting and cycle types, I will never understand you (and neither will any of the hald dozen Meile reps I spoke to), but hey, to each his own. I learned form you too. One more question. I have decided that if we ever move, these babies are coming with us. No way will I ever give them up. I built special cabinets for these units and I just saw some Samsung 23.5" wide machines for about $1200 total for the pair. Anyone know anything about these? It would be nice to know, because the next person who buys this house will have two brand new ones! :-)...See MoreReplace WD with Miele 4840 or Samsung WF448
Comments (5)I've had three service men here. The first time was bc of the water temp issue; I was finding my loads finished warm even if the setting was for Cold or a delicate cycle. I eventually learned that the machine is designed to heat the water on all loads, including Cold and delicate settings. No way to over-ride this setting. The second time, the guy came bc I was experiencing random, sopping wet loads that didn't spin. The guy said the machine needed to be reprogrammed and then we ran a load and it worked fine, so I assumed he corrected the problem. He didn't. Third time, the guy said he could find nothing wrong with the machine bc it worked when he was here. Next, I was supposedly getting the "best" Bosch repair guy in my area to come. Over the phone, while he was scheduling his visit, he told me he already knew my problem was the detergent I was using. I use a tiny scoop of Charlie's Soap powder for full loads (less for smaller loads) and white vinegar in the softener dispenser. Unfortunately, the "best" guy cancelled the day before due to a family emergency and I haven't heard back from him. He was obtained by my appliance store, so I don't have his direct contact info. Meanwhile, Bosch sent me a customer service survey specifically relating to the cancelled repair appointment, that I had a fun time venting on. Two GW readers have emailed me over the past few months asking if my problem was ever resolved bc they were experiencing the same wet-load problem. Bottom line, my recommendation is, don't buy a Nexxt 800. I sure wish I hadn't!...See More- 6 years ago
