Cracks in pool
Comments (58)quote" I would assume that Maggie's attorneys have told her to stay offline with this situation. "quote Hopefully she retained one for her counsel. Last thing I remember was she was meeting both builders and the pool guys structural engineer. I'd definitely be hiring my own and not depending on his. What you see in this thread, piss poor construction techniques, happens in Texas all the time. I lose pools on price all the time and then get the come fix my mess calls. Thankfully it sounds like her builder is a stand up guy and hopefully he'll have a claim against his insurance carrier. This kind of stuff typically throws a builder around here into closing the doors quickly, but he'll waste no time starting a new pool construction company. You know what's sad??? The 21 yr old girl that cuts my hair has a license and is held accountable for her actions but the guy I just lost a 65k pool on price to is on his 4th company since 2000 and still competes with the good builders I've known for decades under the same name and has never been held accountable for the many many uncompleted and poorly constructed pools he's been on. How can you beat my price by 10k, simply by quoting it a tick above cost, not paying the subs, and by not doing things the proper way. What's even more sad is that the judicial system here protects him more than the pool buyer. See ya, Kelly...See More2x12 stair treads cracking inevitable?
Comments (6)Many thanks to the two posters who responded. Thanks to them, and some other research I've done I came to the following conclusions : 1) There is definitely discussion about whether it is truly necessary, but leaving pressure treated wood to dry before painting is still common practice. The goal is to allow the chemicals to fully dry. Recommended durations seem to range from 2 weeks to 6 months, with 3-4 months the most common. 2) Some splitting and cracking will occur as it will with any piece of wood this size. Causes include changes in temperature and humidity, etc. Ways to minimize it include careful selection of the individual boards used, and being careful to pre-drill holes, especially if they're within a few inches of the ends of the boards. There was another method in a post above that sounds both very effective, and somewhat complex. So my contractor was right, or at least following common practise, on all counts. I'm going to ask him to replace a couple of the treads with the worst cracks, and all the new risers he put in to replace the cracked ones - all with pressure treated wood - and we'll delay the painting. I hadn't mentioned it before, but he had to replace the previously installed pressure treated risers as he used the wrong dimension of boards (too small, leaving noticeable gaps), and he tried to use kiln dried wood so as to get our painting done quickly. However, I would rather delay the painting and have more longevity on the structure. Hope this is of value - R....See MoreSplit cedar posts
Comments (5)the cheese board.. where splits put you in a snit. Where cracks slap you in the back. Where checks, become a deck. If the guy had any workmanship he would have sent back the posts and got new ones. I did this before with posts. Called them right up, complained, and they picked up and delivered new ones that were like glass. Nice and tight. Yes, the new ones might crack but maybe they won't or won't for awhile. Now that the guy has them installed, be prepared for a battle. Wood splits are unpredictable epecially with cedar, pressure-treated... so, he will have good footing to smite any attack you may have. It all goes back to his originally decision to blow off the cracks and push ahead like the lazy SOB he is. lol...See MoreFinish for Doug Fir porch posts
Comments (3)Sherwin Williams Ultra deep tint base(A100), but do not add any color. It is paint that dries clear(as long as no color is added). It is milky white when applied, then dries transparent. The following picture is a close up of a walnut cross I built and has been installed over a year now, full sun/wind/rain/snow. I applied two coats of the A100 in August, 2014(was stored inside) and installed the cross in place in March, 2015....See MorePPF.
