fur blanket - ebay question

I bought a used Pottery Barn fur blanket off ebay. It was described as Clean condition, very nice, item has been laundered. In the description after fur throw it said 'soft brown....' Looking at the listing now I don't know if they were saying the blanket was soft or if they were describing the color as a soft brown. There are both lighter and darker shades of brown in the blanket. Bottom line, the blanket isn't soft at all. It feels really gross and filmy. I have another PB fur throw that I bought new, washed, and it's still nice so this definitely wasn't laundered properly. I'd guess maybe dryer sheets and heat were involved. Tag says, cold/gentle cycle/no heat. There's also a few areas where the fur appears more matted together. Very small sections where the one darker fur color is. Again, I say melting. I actually took a fine bristle cat brush and went over a few of those areas and it helped though fur came out on the brush. The middle section of the blanket looks the best but the whole thing feels coarse.

Looking at the photos again I can see some areas where there was the matting but it wasn't that I missed it. I don't feel it was properly represented. Honestly I could get past the matting but I don't want to snuggle up with this blanket and I think washing it again will only make it worse.

The sellers has over 2,000 ratings and 100% feedback. The ebay listing says money back, seller pays return shipping. Does this mean I also get my shipping cost back? The total was $60 with $25 of it being for 2 day USPS shipping. Also keep in mind the fact that I took a brush to a few areas. I didn't hurt anything but I did technically try and fix it. Maybe the seller truly never owned one before and thought it was a nice blanket. I would have no second thoughts returning this to a store but feel bad on the rare occasion I run into this on ebay.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't feel badly at all if the product doesn't meet your expectations (since you were familiar with this particular brand/product). Esp if it appears it was laundered improperly. Nor would I feel any guilt about trying to fix it. You likely will lose your postage costs.

Email the seller without opening a return. Good sellers will try to remedy the situation. Everyone makes an occasional mistake.

Algae grows fast in a pond that doesn't have much surface covered with plants. You have a lot of iris--don't buy anymore as they multiply like crazy! Don't know how long your season is but you could probably have at least two hardy lilies in your pond depending on the variety. I have 6 in my pond which is 18ft long by about 7 ft wide and overwintered them in the pond and the sc last year. Deepest point on my pond is about 4 ft and it gets very cold for a very long time here in the winter. They all survived. Have never had much luck with hyacinth or water lettuce and I don't like how the hyacinth goes brown. I would think if you are going to overwinter it you'd need grow lights of some sort. I've had alot of string algae this year too but I just go along the edges and pull it out and about every two weeks put on the hip waders to get the stuff that's wrapped around the lilies. Have had to clean the leaf trap before my pump several times this year due to the increased algae from the hot weather we had last month. Some people use an UV light for algae but I never have but don't have the green soup algae. I look at it as a sign of a healthy pond--algae doesn't grow if there isn't nutrients for it so...If it's driving you crazy use the toilet brush, feed your fish less and get some plants for surface coverage. I found the seller you mentioned, and there certainly are two books available. Unfortunately, I have been unemployed since May, so I can't really justify over $13 (including shipping) when I only want one pattern. I already have the perfect yarn in my stash. I will have to wait and hope the book is available when I have a little extra cash again if no one is willing and able to share it.

You could also look at Arhaus. Theirs went on sale last week. I was looking at them because most are only 60" long but the Arhaus are 70" long. They are also wider (60" vs most at 50"). Also look at whether you can wash them or have to dry clean. The Arhaus ones can be mashine washed gentle, but the store emphaised to only dry on LOW heat. They had another customer who learned they will melt and matt if you use too high a heat setting.

I see. I find all your suggestions interesting, as well as one I saw on the sewing section suggesting eyelet tape. Thanks! The food was yogurt mixed with cherry concentrate, very very healing to both kidneys and pneumonia. The staff were very negligent in leaving him for a long time both in the A.C. cat-scan room, as well as the A.C. hallway afterward, without immediate transport. When I begged for a blanket, the giant took his blessed time producing yet another THIN quilt. My dad whispered to me that he was pulling up the "blanket" to cover his nose in an attempt to warm his body. These insane places are from the Dark Ages! So if you can believe this, I took the initiative, and got my dad's aide to grab one side while I grabbed the other, to wheel his heavy bed around the corner of the hallway where it was much warmer. Then to boot, when the tardy transport guy finally arrived, he put my dad thru an I.D. questionnaire to ensure it really was him. Cookoo! Sigh..by now he is back at the nursing home he was in previously, and at least there they have a personal fridge.These past years & months have been thoroughly draining. While I do appreciate the suggestions, I too had thought the cute pink bag would be too insulated & outside my budget, and I wouldn't have been able to lug even a tiny fridge to hospital, as I'm a weak shrimp & had plenty other stuff to lug there. I was planning to contact them without opening anything. They were very polite and prompt when I contacted them with a shipping question prior to receiving the blanket. Still hate to go there but I'm not going to use this blanket the way it feels.

Shee, I have a fur blanket from PB & it's been washed multiple times (maybe put in the dryer-can't remember) but it's just like new. Hopefully, the seller will make it right for you & protect 100%feedback.

My sister’s family has a few of those blankets, in different shades. She washed hers and it came out beautifully so she told her daughter go ahead and wash yours. The daughter’s was a darker color one and came out nappy and not as soft. They must be made from different combinations of material that don’t launder the same way.

This info doesn’t solve your issue but I thought it was interesting that you are noticing a difference after laundering.

I have a dark brown PB fur blanket and washed it and fur all curled up. It isn't ugly now, really, it just looks like a different fur-like a teddy bear sort of. It was much prettier before I washed it.

I would definitely return it if you aren't happy with it.

A seller with those stats will definitely step up, and return your money. But, was the 2 day shipping your choice? If so, I’m not sure it’s fair for the seller to eat all that cost, when he could have shipped it originally at a much lower cost.

The shipping was their choice. They listed a FedEx Ground standard delivery for the $25 and the slightly higher option (that wasn't the amount in my listing that I paid for) was Expedited Shipping USPS. When I received the tracking number it looked like shipped it economy USPS (I've run into sellers that say they were going to ship things one way and then ship cheaper and it takes longer) so I contacted her and the 2 day was apparently cheaper according to her.

This one is a color they don't carry anymore. I've been wanting one for a while and stumbled upon a new one on ebay about a week before and while I was double thinking if I really needed another blanket....someone bought it. Annoying with myself I did a search a few days later and found this one.

My other PB blanket is more matted now from washing than it used to be but it's still soft. This one looks and feels like it needs a deep conditioning treatment!

FWIW, my Tahari one is nicer than the PB ones. (I may have a blanket problem.)

yes, talk to them..they'll try to remedy the situation

return shipping is on you usually as per stated-but they might want to reach some agreement?..feedback is extremely important on eBay, and they sell a lot, obviously..they'll appreciate you trying to work it all out with them via messages.

It does sound like it wwas laundered improperly. I have one of that type from Arhaus and the saleslady made a point of telling us they could be machine washed but only dried on the lowest setting to fluff them up and not to over dry. She said people didn't pay attention and dried them too hot and they melted. I would contact the seller and return it.
