Please Help me put the finishing touches on my kitchen..
Comments (22)Your kitchen is beautiful! Very inspirational to me :) Are you familiar with Ballard Designs? They have a huge selection of "outdoor rugs" (although I can't imagine using one outdoors where I live!) But we have a few as door mats and one in our Dining Room, and they are perfect! Easy to wipe down to clean. But they look really, really nice! Take a look--they are all on sale right now. And maybe one or two will inspire you? Just a few examples... OR Now, under your eating area, I am going to just caution that it will get MESSY under there one your little eater is eating independently. But you can enjoy the rug until then, and then see how you feel. It's just hard to get under there and clean, with the built-in there. Also, I had wooden fabric seated chairs, and they will be getting re-upholstered in a few more years--they are trashed! Even the wood backs are "gunky" from so much wet hands/jelly/cereal/yogurt/etc. I switched to industrial style metal chairs from World Market (so not very expensive!) and I love them. Sooooo easy to wipe down--even easier than wood! And I have the coordinating wood table, so it does look good with wood tones, too. And my kitchen is white, Here they are: Finally, go into stores, like World Market or Pier One or anything that floats your boat. Find some napkins or placemats that inspire you. They are a good way to bring in some color in an inexpensive way, test it out in the room, and use it as inspiration for your room. Here is a link that might be useful: Outdoor rugs...See MorePlease help me figure out cabinet color/finish
Comments (6):-) I wasn't really hurt that no one had posted anything yet (in regards to your comment about being sad that there were no replies), as I just posted it at 11 p.m. last night - but I definitely appreciate that you took the time to read and respond! I'm not much of a decorator, to say the least - but I do love warm, earthy tones. The floor pattern we chose was mainly because at that time, we were going to do our kitchen cabinets in the "dreaded" (to some) golden oak, and didn't want the flooring and cabinets to blend into each other (the other pattern we were considering didn't have the black lines - just the "golden" color). Now, with my love of copper and sage for the kitchen counters, I feel like the cabinets need to be something "deeper" than golden oak, with a more red undertone. The kitchen is wide open on two side - one opens to a family room full of windows, the other into a great room full of even more, bigger windows (there isn't a lot of "wall" on our exterior walls...). Everything will be very light and airy, so I thought perhaps I should offset it with some earthier, deeper choices in the kitchen. A blend of walnut and cherry tones might be just right - but now you've got me worried about the overwhelming "red swirls." I do want to keep the copper option on the island. And the flooring has been ordered. Do you have suggestions as to what you would do on the perimeter wall counter (the one 12' run which will have a cooktop in the center)? I didn't think the Metal Earth had that much of red swirls. Or is it the backsplash that should be changed, perhaps? I'm not as tied to that idea. I don't want to tile it, though, so it would probably end up just painted or something else relatively inexpensive, whatever that might be. Would a SS backsplash work, or would that conflict with the copper? I will be putting a SS sink in the copper countertop of the island, with SS faucet - I've been told they'll be fine together. Sorry - I think I just threw out more questions for consideration, didn't I??? Julie...See MorePlease help me choose metal finishes in kitchen.
Comments (0)This is a cross post in Design Dilemmas but I'm not getting any feedback there. :( Maybe someone here can help me. I'm almost done a new build at the beach and have a small problem. I didn't realize that the architect specified ORB hardware for the back sliding doors. Now they're in but there is no other ORB in the house. The lighting fixtures in the rest of the house and interior door hardware are unlaquered or antique brass and I was planning on doing the kitchen pendants in antique brass as well. The faucets and cabinet hardware are polished nickel. I don't like having this random third metal thrown into the mix but the handles are really, really nice. I could 1) make the pendants ORB, 2) change the door handles to white (I don't like Andersen's antique brass) or 3) change the pendants to antique nickel. The floors are gray stained white oak and the peninsula overhang will be edge grain walnut. All of the window hardware is white. (Please ignore what look like flaws in the design...the second sink is more of a bar sink, not really a prep sink. Also the sliding door opening from the wrong side and a few of the bad light positions are being addressed). Thanks for whatever advice you can offer. I'm incapable of making decisions at this point....See MoreHelp me finish this design please!
Comments (19)lol. celery, I like the black rugs. LP a lot of the over dyed rugs you can find on Etsy. I found one here on Houzz. if you do a google search of overdyed vintage rugs, a lot of vendors come up. if you do a black one, then look at how celery has made the room a bit lighter. the wainscot, the bright art, brighter chairs, white drapes. you can pick and choose as your go along....See MoreCaroline
