OT- Finally identified the "night stalker"

We got a Trail cam to see if we could find out what has been digging up the lawn and now is digging at the base of my daylilies. Last night we finally got pics. I need to get more ammonia and some cayenne pepper and spray it around.

Hi Nancy, Here is the link to the blog created just for this campaign by Sewobsessed to help us all participate. It has all the contacts, updates and background. As to posting this on other forums, I have done that already.I posted to all that had activity in the last 5 weeks to make sure it would have a chance to be read. I met with some back lash, told I was Spaming the GW and over stepping the rules. I'm a newbie who has now learned the hard way. Sorry. But, the responses have mostly been positive. I returned to all these forums where it was posted to let them also know about the new blog. The GW is not the only place to find people to participate.If you have any connection to a garden community at home, let them know too. Here is an bit of my early reply to this thread. April 13th, I'm there. My garden is 6 years old. Each spring for the last 5 years another garden show dropped away and my continued education with them. ( thank G-d for you all at GW) How could we get word to the First Lady? We could Email every Nursery we use, on or off line, to join us on the 13th. What about every and any vendor that advertises in garden magazines, most list a www.com to contact them. Any college or high school that has a horticulture program. Directors of food banks. Garden clubs and Societies. Oprah! Sewobsessed, let me know how to help. email me. I am in Niagara Falls NY Elizabeth Glad for your support, I think a steady persistent drum of protest over time is a Great idea. It would be great too,if we build in numbers with each wave of communication, each protest event. A great building Hue and Cry. It all looks really nice so far! A cheap diy to get a moon gate ring/garden arch is to buy a used hay ring off Craigslist in the "farm and garden section" and use it for your garden. I've seen them as cheap as $40 around here but I live in a area with a lot of horses etc. They look like this (see link). You just bury part of it or cement it in. They are big and heavy duty. OT A new 4 legged addition to the family?

Oh it was ugly on the ship when I went down to Pireus to fetch her. She had spent the night in a cage and she was so very freightened, terrified really, that she acted like one of those wild animals you see on wildelife documentaries that look so ferocious when cornered. She wouldn't let me touch her not to mention grab her, put the leash on her and take her out of the cage. If I didn't know better I would have been badly bitten. I resorted to the coat trick where I took off my coat and threw it on top of her to give me some hold without her being able to bite me.. The cage floor was messy with urine and my coat got a good dose of it (thank God for the washing machine..). It was a struggle to negotiate the large ship and take her down to the car without getting bitten.. And then after a 45 min drive she had to face 3 ferocious blood thirsty monsters, Aris the largest of them, easily 5 times her size wanting to tear her into pieces, or so she must have thought. She spent the better part of 2 hours under the car. But 3-4 hours after she was all good and friendly with everyone.. What a nightmarish experience that must have been for her.

We had one, going after grubs in our yard. He hung around several weeks, then wandered in the road and got killed. He did not dig in my flowers, but big holes all over the yard. During the day too. I hate anything getting killed, but don't miss the smell

Sherry: I knew from the holes it was either of those critters but wasn't going to stay up all night sitting on the porch waiting for whatever. Definitely wants the grubs and insects. Another problem is it is leaving its poop here too and I have to clean up everyday otherwise risk getting it on my garden shoes.

Nancy: It only happens at night here. My sister leaves across the road from me and she too is having the same issue. When I saw that it started digging at the base of my daylilies yesterday, I knew I need to start more proactively deterring the little bugger.

Julia,

I remember having one of those stinking critters tearing up my front yard looking for grubs. It also managed to dig into my island bed. I believe it became road kill as I saw one flattened a quarter mile down the road and never had any other problems.

Ditto on all the wow comments. I'd be wondering how to handle that problem if it happened here without using lethal means. Don't skunks carry rabies?.......Maryl

I didn't know skunks were grub eaters too. I saw that darn groundhog again over the weekend that like to dig here. It's hard to keep track of all the varmints that invade our gardens.

Sounds are known to carry rabies. I was rather worried about the skunk that was out during the day. No skunks this year, but I had a racoon that let digging up my newly planted daylilies. I have a habit of watering new plants in with water from my fish pond. I stopped doing that and he stopped digging.
