Thought this might interest at least some of you ..

I discovered this page of info that is clickable to view your area and see what the powers that be say about drought conditions. You can go back a month, a year , a number of years to see what they say the conditions were like in your area ......and compare with your own notes. This also has zone maps and many other pages of info if you check through the site .

Here is the link to the drought map for 2018 ......but as I said you can click back to check out other years . https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/drought/201807

James Spann. our local weather man keeps us really well informed on drought in our sate and is excellent about comparing other periods with drought. I really Cannot imagine not having James Spann reporting our local weather as he has been doing it for many years.

You are lucky Kay to have a great weather man. For the most part I call them weather guesserators around here . Never seem to get it right .......ever! Best resource is to step outside and if we get wet , it's raining and if we don't it's sunny , if your hat blows off it's windy . Much more accurate than any weather man anywhere near this neck of the woods.

Nice photographs. I worked in a clinical laboratory for several years. There is a world that can be seen with a microscope that many cannot even imagine - even if they think they can imagine it. A spin-off footnote. Some geeks have discovered one can take a cheap digital camera and a magnifying glass and take pictures of features that are almost microscopic. I shake too much and have to figure out some way to steady two at the same time.

Those hornworms grow into Hummingbird Moths which are amazing moths that look like baby humminbirds. If you don't have too many, I would leave them alone so they can grow up. The moths are just beautiful when you see their little beaks dipping into a flower. Their little wings move so fast, just like a hummingbirds.

I love it! It sounds like my Grandmother talking to the young version of me. One of the highlights of my Air Force public affairs job was speaking to Mr. Brokaw, and calling him back on his private work line, in connection with space shuttle and several NASA officials being transported to our base.

Bonnie, I just cut the grass, sprayed weed killer and Deer Fence repellent was dragged across the yard by Shasta going after a rabbit and standing for 10 minutes alongside my shed because she wouldn't leave where the rabbit hid and now I am going out to trim the grass.....so, it looks nice but right now I'm not in love. BUT, thank you, I appreciate it.

Our local weatherman is great about past temps and weather comparisons, not always so great about today's weather though. Mother Nature does not like to be predictable.

One of the stations which broadcasts out of Rochester will show where drought is still problematic. Not always good on predictions as they mostly focus on Rochester area and we are well south of that. Our TV satellite provider (DISH) only allows us to view Rochester based tv news stations. I guess that is what happens when you live in the country.

Good resources! I often watch AG Day weather to see the national information on drought, root zone moisture, the jet stream, etc. They do a good job. https://www.agweb.com/agday/

We have some very good weathermen locally, especially Bill Meck on ch. 18. He gets it right when no one else does, and he's trained his whole team to be about as accurate as he is. He's also a weather history buff, digging in the past for decades and way beyond. He used to do a blog about his findings on weather patterns, etc. What he digs up really puts the damper on the idea of man made global warming.
