I love a wood floor in the kitchen. We had light stained oak for 17 yrs & it wore well & was not high maintenance to keep it (looking) clean. Our floors are dark now. It is more maintenance but we are empty nesters. Matching your dining room should be doable but it would involve stripping & restaining the DR floor to get a good match with the kitchen. Go out & look at cabinets. Find inspiration pictures you love. Decide on a cabinet and then address the floors. You can save "Idea Books" on Houzz. When you see something about a kitchen you like, save it in an Idea Book. It will save you time later on when you have all those other decisions to make...lighting, cabinet height, moulding, backsplash, countertops, etc. Can you post pictures of your wood trim? You'll get more responses & advice with pictures & when you're up to it, a layout of your current kitchen.

Epoxy grouts resist staining much better than conventional grouts. And, while I am not trying to talk you out of small tiles, be aware that you can get attractive non-slip tiles in any size. We just did a re-tile of our master bath that involved replacing 2"X2" tiles with 2'X2' porcelain tiles, and there is no slipping issue at all...even in the shower. And the difference in maintenance is amazing. Another point to remember is that certain materials, including some natural stones, are more porous than porcelain, so sealing them regularly may be helpful to minimize staining in a bathroom.

@jhmarie yes I may have to go that way, though all the ones I've seen haven't been that great (looking for mostly white not too much or too dark veining) if anyone has any good ones let me know, but I think you are supposed to have small tile in shower itself for traction/ non slip? So wondering what would best go.. @SabrinaAlfinInteriors I read many houzz threads about incorrect installs and water retention of the marble causing floor damage such as this thread with many pro comments saying it's a widespread problem... The first photo the floor tiles look too beige with the walls on my monitor. The second photo I do not like the black diamond pieces with your wall tile. The third photo I do not like the dark grey tiles. I am sorry, I know what it is like to be under the gun time wise. I think a white tile that matches your wall is best (like Sina originally suggested is best). Definitely NOT anything marble - ask me how I know :( You have to get the right tile or you will always be unhappy. The tiler can come back another day and you can live without the shower a little longer. If it is the tiler pressuring you then pay him a little extra for an additional trip after you have the right tile. You will always be happy you did.
