who makes a luscious wallpaper?
Comments (20)I don't know what qualifies as timeless. but we bought middle of the road wallpapers in about 1992 and after living with them since then we still love most of them and are only starting to even think about replacing a couple of borders. We need to repaint, but the papers are still in good shape so in at least one room we're going to repaint without repapering. If you're lucky you'll have a retailer who actually stocks some good stuff; otherwise just plough through the books and see what appeals to you. It's so individual; at least, it must be since there are so many patterns that also don't appeal to me! Make a note of book name, page number, and pattern number for reference. To me there are basically three levels: high end "haute couture" hand printed etc including the non-pre-pasted, middle of the road nice papers, and then stuff that is so pedestrian it is stocked at the big box stores. Maybe there are big boxes that stock better quality, but not around here. I can't find anything in the pedestrian category, but have never been unable to find something I like in the middle of road level. I've linked below to a site that offers the easiest browsing I've found for middle of the road papers, organized by book so it is easy to maybe find them to look at in person in stores. On line mostly doesn't begin to capture the real paper. Discountdecorating.com is another site that is relatively easy to search by theme. However, I do prefer to shop at my local stores even though I don't get the discount prices just because I value having them available to see locally, and buying on line obviously isn't going to support that. One warning: when you find a paper you really like, act quickly to at least enquire about stock, because they pull books and patterns without warning. I spent three days in January looking at books and choosing patterns, only to find that when I went back to order a week later, the books had been pulled. Conversely, if you don't find something you like, wait a couple of months and look again, there will be new stuff out. Finally, if you have a discontinued pattern you want to hunt down, type the pattern number into a search engine. Comments (26)I did know that you were talking about the border being at the top - I was trying to express that a small molding would do an even better job of making the top of the wall look finished. Both borders and molding cover any irregularities in cutting and somewhat reduce the potential for separations at the top; the additional benefit of molding is that it covers any irregularities/imperfections in the joint between wall and ceiling. Crown molding does not need to be massive and fancy. There are super-simple crowns like this two-inch-tall one (all these pictures are from wishihadthat.com; this first one is stock number ET-8503): This one's taller but still wonderfully simple (ET-8573): A sort of molding called bed molding (don't ask me why) can almost be considered "miniature crown molding". Cove molding is an excellent alternative to crown, too. In my previous house I used a cove molding with a face of about 1 1/4" in my master suite-lette and it did a lot to "complete" the wall (it was almost the last thing to go in). I used such a small one because I had low ceilings (7'6") and the larger cove overpowered the room a little bit. A cove looks more like this (AB-210), with a simple concave curve, although this one with a four-inch face is bigger than I was envisioning; Home Depot/Lowes carry much smaller ones that are just fine for painting: What I would suggest is that you obtain samples of each sort of molding you are considering and tape them in place with low-tack painter's tape. Live with them a couple of days and see which one you like best. Oh, and another nifty thing about having molding on both ends of the paper - it helps hold them down so you're not so likely to get peelage at the ends. If your ventilation is very bad you might still get separation at seams, true, but if your ventilation is very bad you may well have far worse problems than your wallpaper peeling! :-)...See MoreFramed wallpaper art ?
Comments (51)About colour - your rooms are beautiful and you have done a great job of presenting a cohesive and interesting space. Not everyone needs or wants colour. If you don't miss it or need it then don't put it in because someone tells you that it needs it. We redid our house a few years ago and I fell into the "Neutral rooms and bring interest into the room through texture" trap and I hated both the living room and especially the kitchen. I have spent the last 5 years bringing colour back into the house because I do need colour, not a lot, but some and I recognize that. I like the art work but the teal pillows are too eye-jarring. If you like the canvas art then try pillows in the soft pink (?) found in the art....See MoreSource for historical wallpaper? or something acceptable for price?
Comments (5)Hard to rec without knowing your preferred budget. Look at Cole & Son,Wm Morris, as well as Sanderson (you might like 'Waterperry' https://www.wallpaperdirect.com/us/products/sanderson/waterperry/136178 Less spendy would be A Street Prints. I typically get the best prices from Mahones. https://www.mahoneswallpapershop.com/ Another option would be to stalk ebay. Depending on how much you need, you might be surprised at what is out there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Satin-Forest-Beige-Trees-Wallpaper-in-Brewsters-Ink-Book-FD46954/381307808068?epid=1701042062&hash=item58c7b76944:g:vuoAAOSwEZdcwc2H...See Moredonna teddy
