Autumn Joy and Autumn Fire
Comments (18)That one's not from my garden, it's from HCG. They are pretty pricey, but they have a great reputation. I've had mixed results with overwintering sunset hyssops, but had a few survivors for several years that I lost during that awful winter - was it 2 years ago? They really demand good drainage, so I plant them on a small hill. I buy at least one every year, different varieties, looking for one that will overwinter again. Bluestone has a couple of different ones, much less expensive than HCG....See MoreWhat is this? Sedum Autumn Joy?
Comments (4)Yeah, Ken, that's what I thought -- it was a mystery -- but I think I now know what happened. This plant was hidden under ditch lilies, so I hadn't been watching it, and I think that deer got to it and ate it down to nubs without me seeing it, and it is just now coming back. When I just went out to look this morning, there was some evidence of it being nibbled again, and I could see the classic SAJ shoots. That's why it's so small and why it doesn't look like the rosettes that appear in the spring. I've been using Imustgarden Deer Repellent -- all natural, spice scent -- because deer ate all of my SAJ's last year. So far, the other plants are intact, so I think the repellent is working. Anyone else have experience with this product? Many thanks for the replies :-) Janet...See MorePlanting Ajuga (Choc. Chip) & Sedum (Autumn Joy)
Comments (3)No it's not too late. Landscape and garden designers oversee plantings for new or renovated landscapes all summer long (and in my case, all year long). Trees and shrubs can take more effort to establish but perennials and groundcovers can really be planted any time the soil is workable. You just need to be more in tuned with watering the later into the season you go. I would not plant them together. They do not share similar growing conditions and are really not very complimentary either....See MoreMy sedum autumn joy is showing new growth
Comments (2)That sedum is bone hardy. Even if the first shoots might freeze, it will send up new growth from the roots later. Snow will only protect the tender young shoots....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
