The problem more than likely is that the soil is too dry rather than the direct sun. If soil is consistently moist, Japanese anemones do just fine. In dry soil, they fry - whether the dry conditions are in sun OR shade. If you really want them in the sunnier location, water, water, water this first season and probably the second season, when they get well established they should be fine in "normal" soil. If the spot is normally on the drier side, though - move them, you'll never win the battle.

The sticky wicket is the real estate appraiser - he is tough to pin down. I live at the Jersey shore and he is in Bucks County, PA (west of Philly), an easy 1.5 to 2 hour run from here depending on his location there. He called me 2 weeks ago on a rainy Friday at 4:00 and left a message he wanted to come between 6-7 that evening. No good....I had plans. He left a message at 5:00 pm last night and wanted to come this morning between 10-11...hello, we work. Gave him a direct dial # at work and suggested Saturday AM as he has a place down here..said he wasn't sure he would be down but would let me know. Come on, a 3 day weekend with nice weather predicted why wouldn't he head to the shore?? My mortgage rep says they have had trouble with this guy before. I suggested there has to be someone else they use between Bucks County and the coast. We have to see...once he's done it looks like we're good to go!! Oh well, that's my rant for today. as far as i am concerned.. your only issue is winter heave ... if you move biggish clumps ... with a gob of soil.. and they wont move .. go for it .. if you were dividing into small plants.. that might heave out of the ground.. in late winter ... then you might have a problem ... and that is part of the issue with mini's ... and perhaps with new divisions.. presuming you bare root them at planting ... as to the excess water ... imo.. the only issue.. is the weight of the gob of dirt you plan on moving ... water is heavy .. lift properly ... ken

Yes miles10612, remembering to label them is always key. Sometimes I have to go by what other plants or fencing or parts of the house to remember similar plants. I usually go back and label, hopefully on the same day. But I have had other times where I have to go to the garden and find the plant. The other thing I have done is photo the plant and next pic is photo of label or vice versa. You end up with many pictures, but after you label them, you can delete the pictures of the labels. debra
