Congrats on buying your first home! Just a couple of comments - I honestly don't think that your roof and brick look that bad together. But if you want to paint the brick go for it, but I wouldn't. I'm findin it's the white colour that doesn't add anything to your home. It's a bit blah, but with the right pallet ? I see now, red, grey and browns hues from your pic. The olive you have in mind won't work.(IMHO). May I suggest - Benjamin Moore - check them out online - CC490, CC470, & other colours in that area. (brown/pink/grey). Softer (but darker hues) to accomodate the brick & roof. Pick up a darker shade (2x)with the shutters. I had a hard time myself with this a couple of years ago too, (my roof is very similar to yours) and picked the wrong colour for my shutters. Lived with it for a year, but couldn't stand it. It got changed, and looks lovely now. I hope I've helped somewhat.

I saw your post and just wanted to comment on it as I, too, am having to select a paint color for my brick home. I really like the grey that was suggested to you. Would love to know what you end up choosing! Anne

I don’t think ”just paint” makes sense for your house because of the door next to the garage. It would be totally worth the investment to put an overhang/awning that goes over both the garage door and that lower door, like a weather portico, to diminish the visual effect that isolated door is having on the facade of your house. And then paint that door and the garage door a dark, unintersting color. Next biggest impact would be to paint your concrete foundation the darket color that is part of the brick. Invest in a solid storm door, all glass. Depending on your choice for a door color, think about a contrasting color for the metal railing.

If you think that you will get a new roof in ~10 years (which may be less), and IF you may want to select a different roof color then, then you need to be sure that you choose a neutral color for the siding - otherwise you will find yourself trying to either match the new roof to the siding, or repainting the siding to be more compatible with the new roof. Garage and front door and window box need to get rid of that brown. Garage- match the siding or brick - it is so large that you want it to blend in visually. Door can match trim or bring in a 3rd color that you like, that looks good with your other elements. Gutters can match shingles; I sometimes see them painted to match trim (and I did this on my house) but I think it wouldn't be the best for your long & prominent roofline. Hopefully someone can do a mockup like houssaon's to show the different options for gutters and garage. Or, you can go to various paint brand websites, upload your photo to their color selection tool (they all have one) and there you can try out different colors and combinations yourself. Budget landscaping - you can post on the landscaping forum to ask for design help; or get a plan from a garden center. Budget tip: frequently visit the big box store garden centers (Lowe's in particular if you have one near) and check out the clearance rack, where they discount plants and shrubs that are past their prime - maybe just post-bloom, sometimes in worse shape from neglect but salvageable with a repotting and TLC. Also, in autumn most nurseries will discount their stock, that is a good time to get trees and shrubs.
