Hi there, It's interesting that you bring this up. When we bought our last home in 1988, they had this type of door. I had two previous homes before this and thought it was really different because we always had pulls and knobs, but I was told that this was the "new" thing. I then noticed in all of the new homes, that's how the doors were designed, and actually, if you had pulls/knobs on your cabs, you were "outdated." So it was the fad at the time, obviously. I then started to notice about 5 years or so ago that pulls/knobs were becomimg popular again, so when we refaced our cabs, we added them (just took off the magnets, obviously!) So what I'm saying is that it's not the current "trend" to go the way you want to, but other than that, it's definitely what you want that matters. I personally did not like them because even though we originally had stain on the cabs, when the light hit them, wow, you could see all of the fingerprints that I did not notice before. And of course, you then have to clean them really well because fingerprints have oil in them and don't just wash off unless you wipe them down EACH time you grab the door because the oils in a clean finger still leaves a mark eventually. Other than that, they looked good, but now I see that they were a little bit plain.

We have 2 pulls on the cabs that are 30 or wider and 1 pull on everything else. I find that with the smooth operation of our cabs that having 2 pulls is nice. I can reach a pull from either side of the drawer and never use 2 pulls at the same time. It helps if you have a few people in the kitchen at the same time, esp for the 36" wide drawers. I also like the double pull look better on the wide and deep drawers. Most don't do a 4 stack of drawers that wide, so I am not sure how a single pull would work in that instance. These are 30" wide drawers with 2 pulls. I can't picture them with only 1. Notice that neither pull is very far from the center:

I get snagged by door knobs so often that I'm surprised I haven't had a whiplash injury. Bathrobes, jackets, pants pockets. For that reason I will be getting only a smooth, closed pull. No "T" shapes or similar, even if they do look nice. Mandy, it sounds as if you do not get snagged. Maybe you are either above, or below, the snag line. Or maybe you are just graceful. I do not think cabinet hardware is at heights that are in the snag-line range, so it may not matter. Haven't thought about it 'til now, but I don't think I've ever been snagged in public. It would have been memorably embarrassing. Check out the heights of the pulls. May not be a problem, but I'm not taking the chance.

I had to do the same thing with some cabinet doors, although the cabinet was custom made and I had given the cabinet maker the dimensions of the pulls, he still didn't leave enough room! A good finish carpenter can do it easily. You just need someone who takes pride in their work and knows how to measure twice and cut one! My doors stayed without pulls for a while until I had a GC in the house doing some other work and I asked him to install the recessed pulls. It didn't take him long at all.
