I just use the standard fertilizer when I think about it. I have a nice clump of Heliconias in the corner of my yard and they start blooming in June and will quit in September. Each stalk just produces one bloom and then it dies, but I have new ones that keep coming up. Have you considered growing your Heliconias in the ground? It's too late to start now but there is a book called The Exotic Garden by Richard Iversen which you might take a look at. He started a tropical garden at the State University of New York in Farmingdale which has been a great success. The only thing you have to do is to dig up some of the plants you want to keep and overwinter them in your house or garage.I grew up in Chicago so I know how hot it can get and there is no reason why some of the tropical plants wouldn't do well in Illinois. Your Chorophytum is an unusual plant and I'm sure the web site I found is the same one you did but I'm posting the link anyway.It looks like a really neat plant. While I was at Home Depot today, I took a look, and they now have the new GE Cafe CFE29TSDSS on display right next to the Profile PFE29PSDSS that has been there since last year. Since I was able to see both next to each other, it's a toss-up as to which one looks better - or has the better features. The Profile has the curved doors & handles, and the hands-free auto fill for water. The Cafe instead is more square (no curves) and the handles look more "industrial". Instead of the hands-free auto fill, the Cafe has a hot water dispenser. While I find this interesting, the knob that you have to turn and push in felt a bit flimsy.. also, I'm wondering how "repairable" the heating coils are and if there is a way to descale them, since it is sealed within the door. When you look up inside the water dispenser, you can see two water hoses, for cold and hot water. Inside of the unit has a new odor remover that has a replaceable carterage and a LED lights that change color in the temp controlled deli drawer. Also, the bins on the sides of the doors are styled a bit different. So it seem that the Cafe has some newer features that are missing on the Profile (odor removal, colored LED in deli drawer, different styled door bins), thought the Cafe has the hot water maker, while the Profile has hands-free auto fill. I'm not sure how much use I'd get from the Cafe's hot water maker, since it only takes 3 min in the microwave to heat water for tea. And how long will the hot water maker last in the fridge before needing service.

That hasn't happened to me yet for sp. SR-2013-005. But, it does happen. I did an experiment. Seems if very young leaves get injured (I purposefully "bumped" them, for my experiment), they tend to pinch and deform. Also happens if pressure from other vine growth is constantly applied to them as they develop. SR-2013-005 will rapidly grow in warm, humid conditions. It likes to be slightly damp (not soaking wet or soggy). I wish mine would slow down, lol! I have to constantly train it. It is a twining hoya, and readily wraps itself around anything and everything.

Is that Begonia listida in the back left? I've always loved the leaves on that one. I used to have one years ago. It would look fabulous by the end of the summer, and ratty with brown leaf edges by the end of the winter. I guess I just didn't have enough humidity in the house for it. Gorgeous leaves, though.
