Gently Used 30" Bluestar Drop-in Cooktop available.

Bought a 30" Bluestar drop-in cooktop about 2 years ago. We decided to completely remodel the kitchen this year and have opted to move to a range based on the new layout (got Bluestar again). If anyone is looking for the highest BTU open burner drop-in on the market and would like to get it way way below cost of new, please let me know. Would hate to see this beauty end up at the scrap yard. I even have an extra grate that I cut out for use with a round bottom wok.

Please excuse my intrusion on this thread which I'm not trying to hyjack. I've tried for the last three days to post without any luck. I need help,opinion on converting LP to Nat gas

the format has not allowed me to do so???? Instead of hitting the POST button it says NEXT then everything disappears. Very frustrating

I have a Viking Range top Model VGRT360-4GSS that I am converting from LP to Nat Gas along with the entire house. It's been extremely frustrating but that's another story for another day.

My Mechanical Contractor used the parts I ordered for the conversion. I've never had Nat Gas and know it burns not as hot as LP. However, the burners are rated 15,000 - NG and 13,000 something for LP. The flame looked kind of wimpy but it was all blue and worked at all settings.

The next morning I cooked breakfast as usual and found the range top not functioning very well.

In frustration I fiddled around trying to adjust the burners. I was able to up the flame a bit but nothing meaningful.

Following day I called the parts people explaining my problem and asking if they perhaps sent the wrong parts. No, the orifices are correct size. Then after a long discussion the guy said, Oh that model is a 2001 and there is a pin. If you screw the orifice in too tight the pin restricts the flow. Just back them off and things should work. I failed to ask how much does one back off.

I borrowed a box wrench from my framer. He tweaked one burner a bit and left. When I reinstalled the burner and venturi It made a big difference. I've tried to do the same with the others without much luck. They are reamed on so tight I can't get them to budge.

My question is, would it be best to uninstall them (if I can get in there and manage to do that) and then reinstall and how much do I screw them in. I know that's probably hard to answer but any help is very much appreciated. I have to make do with this equipment until we do a major kitchen remodel.

This is my 3rd time trying to post. It says NEXT then when you hit send, I think there is nothing to send. This time I will make a copy.

I've got the Bluestar 36" drop in and love it. When you say you're not worried about open vs sealed burners, do you mean you don't prefer one over the other? If so, consider the following questions... 1. Are you interested in even heat distirbution? 2. Are you going to do any wok cooking? 3. Do you want the heat to go into the pan rather than wasted up the sides? 4. Do you want to use your 8-12" pan, skillet, or pot on your high btu burner? These are just a few of the things that the Bluestar excels at due to their open burner design. I don't believe any other company has a pro level open burner drop-in cooktop. Only you can determine what you think you'll be happy with but I am certainly happier with my Bluestar then I ever was with the sealed burner cooktop I had before. IMHO, the question of "Bluestar vs. anyone else" *is* by definition a question of open vs sealed when it comes to cooktops. Good luck and happy cooking.

I would pick an all-gas range and electric wall oven. An all gas range is considerably less expensive than dual-fuel, and you would have the flexibility of two ovens & an infrared broiler (only available in a gas oven). You could use the gas oven as a warming oven, handy to the rangetop, or its extra large capacity for crowds. If you don't choose a range, then a rangetop will give you higher BTUs and large burner grids than a "cooktop", which has discreet burner or hob areas. I'd pick the GE Monogram 36" 6 burner gas rangetop. For an electric wall oven, I believe a GE Monogram convection gives good value for the price. Others may suggest good alternatives. We installed a 36" 6 burner DCS range because it was available in all gas while GE Monogram only has dual fuel. At the time, 3 years ago, DCS offered rolling oven racks, higher burner BTUs, and a simmer ring on all burners, while Wolf did not & was considerably more expensive. We're very happy with the DCS & would get it again. We also have an electric wall oven & love the flexibility.

I know what you mean about exploring things fully for the gear-obsessed. It sounds like you're close, and if you're going BlueStar, I'd try to get an order in my the end of the year. I've recently gotten a "courtesy" email from a BlueStar retailer We simply wish to inform you that the factory has announced a price increase starting on January 1st, 2010. We expect the increase to be around 5% on all items. My wife loves the oven and I love the cooktop (division of labor) so I don't think you can go wrong if you are comfortable with open burners. The Wolf is also a good range, but I prefer the BlueStar burners for their uniformity, control, and output, along with a simmer that is low enough for custards. It was that the American Range and NXR didn't have a low that wasn't as low as my decades-old Caloric (which wasn't that low) that pushed me another notch up in the range market to the BlueStar.

I just had a 30 inch drop in cooktop installed in my new home last month, heres something that ppl may wanna know before buying this cooktop. 1. there is NO integrated wok like the Rangetop, as most video showed, you have to use a wok ring BUT you will be too high from the flame and the flame can only cover a small area of your wok pan, which is completely useless. That makes me really sad cuz thats one of the most important function i want from a bluestar. 2. the star shape flame although is center focused, but it only covers 6~8 inches (22k btu at max) of your pan, which is really small if you are using a 13 inches flat bottom fry pan. traditional seal burner can cover 10~12 inches ( 2 rings 14k btu sealed burner) 3. Although it is 22k btu, but because of the bowl shape, the burner is actually 2 1/2 inches lower that the regular sealed burner, that design will greatly reduce the flame area and firepower. 4. the 30 inches cooktop has better design that the 36 inches cooktop, because 2 front burners are 22k btu, so yout can put your griddle there for best result. The 36 inches has tow 22k btu burners 1 at left and 1 at right with knobs in the middle, so you can only put griddle vertically to get one 22k and one 8.3k under your griddle. 5. the performance is no where close to the bluestar 25k btu ranges/rangetops. i know they are much more expensive, but if you have the cash and space, get them instead. Here is a link of a top chinese brand cooktop in NA, i was so regret i didnt get this one instead, if you want something that has the same btu and easiser to clean up that bluestar, this would be your best fit, and it cost almost half than bluestar cooktop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNK3AK675u8 so my conclusion is, this blue star cooktop is good, but does not worth the price tag, especially when they nerfed the integrated wok function, if you just want a high btu cooktop, this might not be your only choice, i know bluestar is open burner and more even heat, but the heating area is pretty small compares to a high btu traditional burner. overall bluestar cooktop is not bad, but if you expecting some professional cooking, get the range/range top instead.
