Black stainless appliances
Comments (5)I am not certain of the process, but it could be a lot like anodized aluminum, which is a thin chemical alteration at the surface. Some industry experts seem to think it's here for the long haul, but the reality is that it will be here only as long as it generates enhanced profitability for the manufacturers. Other than white and regular stainless, colors/finishes come and go. Over in Asia, you would be amazed at some of the bright colors that are in use or were recently in use, think Miami art deco. Comments (14)I love the look of the black stainless. I have been watching for a year. Not seeing much activity. I did talk with folks at three stores who told me it's a plastic coating n if scratched peels n I would have buy entire pieces to fix so I backed off. I do think some rustic industrial designs or black n white would work. Or black gray n blue. But not seeing much activity. Thank been searching houzz n google for a year. I just threw this out. Wondering. I do think u can get too much black. But I think it looks good if blended n balanced. In high contrast I love it. Comments (33)It's the "black glaze" part that I'd eliminate. Glazing like that has a tendency to make the cabinet just look shabby and old. There's enough going on with the gray stain on the wood, no need for glaze too. You also better make sure you will be comfortable with the variegations in the wood which will come to the surface with that wash. See on the sample pic you posted of the Snowbank door how the vertical, horizontal, and center panel pieces look so different from each other? Make sure you see it IRL and imagine that all over your kitchen. Some people--maybe you--might say "how charming, I love that". Others might not. Which one are you?...See MoreBlack stainless steel appliances peeling?
Comments (14)Sure, if it started peeling/flaking on its own you could continue doing it, but the likelihood of it coming off uniformly all at one time is vanishingly small. If you try that, the refrigerator will look like it has psoriasis. But, hey, it's your refrigerator so you should do whatever you want with it. Just don't revisit this in a year asking how to make a scabby-looking refrigerator pristine after you've picked at or scraped the finish, and possibly also damaged the underlying surface. ;-)...See MoreJudy Mishkin
