Butterflu4u, are you ok? Where have you been?
Comments (2)Butterfly, it's so good that my Mom and I see that you are ok! I was a bit sick lately and sorry it took me a while to get back here, but you surely put a smile on my face. We go way back and I never forgot the nice things you have said to me and for all teh great advice you have taught me and others here. You certainly have some very nice fragrant plants! Rememeber the Gardenia you showed us a pic of with the snow on it? Is it still doing ok? Now, that is frustrating and yet adventurious at teh same time, trying to figure where to put that AWESOME olive tree that you got! Have you got a spot yet? Would you like ouyr opinions? I'll help you. I use to be a landscaper and did my own yard. I have an eye for that stuff. I am so happy it finally rained! Yahoo. I'll bet your plants reacted very nicely. They probably turned very green and even flowered for you. I'll bet you Olive Tree loved it! It seems mines loves to get wet. It give me more blooms when I wet it. I had no idea foliage turned color that far south! I had no idea you had to rake either. I'll bet your winters are a lot shorter than mines though. I miss mine were as short as yours! I hate bringing my plants in for sooooo long without fresh air. I can tell you that smelling the fragrance in my house though is something I would not enjoy if they were all outside. YOu should smell my Brunfelsia in bloom at night while watching T.V! It's so good to see you. Listen, keep in touch with us or me if you wish. My e-mail is mikerno_1@yahoo.com. Do you grow other plants besides Fragrants? Many a good night and my MOm said to send you a hug. Mike and Sissy...See MoreHave you been told, 'If you have to ask...
Comments (44)I'm wondering if he just used a very unfortunate choice of words to express the idea that it takes him time to do an estimate and that's a loss if you're a casual inquirer. Is the same as the "qualifying" process idea, but any craftsman, designer or similar person just has to have some kind of sequence of involvement that they can rely on that saves them time but still attracts new customers. I don't know how this works, of course, since the problem is, with many such efforts, you can't come up with an accurate estimate unless you know most of what you're being asked to do, so if it takes you 30 min, even, to figure that out, and you do that several times daily, and the return is low, you're broke. If someone is well-established in a fairly high end business, he might well charge a fee just to talk and see your wish list and give an estimate, and then that cost will be applied if you buy. For cabinetry, I would wonder if the person could have any kind of brochure or book of work with some example prices, even if price range was kinda broad and there were multiple disclaimers about "prices subject to change". I mean, you might be trying to figure out whether a custom built-in hutch costs $3k or $30 k, or whatever. My point is just that, it would be more straightforward to be told it'll cost me to sit down with the guy and get an estimate, since that is just the business of how he values his time, and that would not be offensive, as I can then make my decision about whether I value it the same amount, and includes the sensible idea that people agree on fees before doing any level of business, compared to the "if you have to ask" approach....See Morewhere have you visited that you would never go back again?
Comments (100)I do like a lot of touristy spots: ie, Las Vegas. We went to "Fly Away" & took a sky diving lesson. Toured the dam. Saw a couple of shows. Paid a helicopter to fly us over Lake Mead & around. Stayed in a room right above the erupting volcano. Caesars Fantasy Towers was awesome. People in costume handing you towels when you get out of the pool. ☺ Been 3 times. Florida, I'd go back. I'd like to dive w/ the manatees & there are a few ship wrecks to explore. Great Cuban food. Hell Grand Cayman, I'd skip next time. ☺ Yes, that's a real place. The local, bad/barrio part of St Maarten, I would pass on. The local guy selling BBQ chicken out his kitchen window wasn't as good as the locals bragged. Mine was raw in the middle! ☺ (that's the trip where we arrived and our hotel had burned down. ha ha We couldn't understand why the taxi driver left us @ the airport & took the next fare when we told him where we were going.) Exuma Bahamas, Georgetown, was nasty on land, but GREAT diving if you just moor your yacht at sea on a coral reef mooring line, like our captain did...had FANTASTIC cayes!...See MoreHave you ever been offered a promotion you weren’t looking for?
Comments (18)Yes. I was 17 and worked at Subway. I had been there 2, almost 3 years and wasn't really even offered the job. I was told I was being made manager, and getting a whooping salary of 9 whole dollars an hour. I accepted because I was 17 and dumb. While I have no issue confronting problems with staff ,suppliers or customers, I had no desire to either. After a year or so of it, I went to a temp service and asked them to find me night shift industrial work. I had enrolled in college and did not need or want the extra stress of being paid pennies for a thankless position full of stress and responsibility. I found I enjoyed being able to clock in, work, clock out and FORGET ABOUT WORK. I was only responsible for my actions, no one depended on me. No one was calling me with problems, no one was giving out my phone number to angry shrews who took offense to the tomato selection that day. And I was making twice as much. That was enough. I did not finish college because I took issue with what I saw and still see as the huge scam they are running. But through my experience I found my way to the job I have now which I really really enjoy. A few years ago my supervisor died suddenly. We all knew who was going to be our next supervisor, the only issue was they tended to go with seniority, and both myself and the other night minion had seniority over him. HR called and asked "Um, you don't want that position do you?" To which I assured her that no, I did not, and no, I take no issue with the said person being my supervisor. I wish to be a worker bee. I no longer have ANY desire to be over anyone or any department. I do not want to trade my low stress living for those problems. I want to come in, clock in, do the necessary work, maybe a little gardening, decorate for the holidays, walk every night, and then clock out and go home. And collect a check, that is the ultimate objective here. I truly feel as though I have hit the jackpot with this job, even if it has a few...challenges. (coworkers) In your case, if those people are unwilling to submit to your authority or create a hostile environment or wish to quit because of their opinion on staffing, then good riddance. It is not their business and therefore their opinion on who should run it should not matter to anyone. Be extra kind and hold the door all the way open for them to walk out....See MoreHonu3421
