Kitchen Appliance decisions - mixing brands - where to spend $$
Comments (2)In my opinion, splurging on the range or rangetop and ovens is the right choice - there is often a big difference in capabilities. Others will disagree, but generally a fridge is a fridge and a DW is a DW with less important differences. With regard to Monogram vs. Profile - it depends on the appliance. In some cases, like the ranges, the products are very different and the Monogram are significantly better. In other cases, like microwaves, they're often the same product with a different faceplate. You need to research each appliance individually....See MoreOk to mix appliance brands in kitchen? Please tell me Yes!
Comments (25)My husband (tho we dont' live 2gether) has all GE monogram appliances except for his Miele built in espresso unit. His kitchen is very nice - 6 burner stove, griddle, side oven, etc. BUT HE DOESN'T COOK.... He feels I should have all my appliances match in my new home. I feel function is more important, as I do cook. I do use my kitchen and liking my appliances is more important than how they "look" to visitors. But, I would match my range/stove to my hood. Only because they seem like 1 appliance. So far I have picked a Bosch slide in range, hood custom from cabinet maker, Samsung cabinet depth frig, Sharp mw drawer, and I'm leaning towards a Kitchenaid dw. A Bosch dw would match nice, but since it's smaller than the KA, I prefer the KA. My frig and stove are on the same wall. mw on island, and diswasher on another wall. While I would like the handles to be pretty similar or if KA had thier new dw without a handle (that would be perfect - they don't) but, I don't think it's gonna look "god awful" not being matchy-matchy. I'm heading to Lowes today, just to compare before I finalize on my dw. All other appliances are purchased, and I can't return them. I'm hoping guests look more at my cabinets and counters than my appliances. Good Luck in your choices...See MoreIs it a no-no to mix brand name appliances?
Comments (18)Absolutely not! Buy what you like or use what you have. I use my appliances until they wear out..currently have a black Kenmore frige, black Kenmore DW, and an almond (with black front) range. They are all old, and if I ever get around to giving my kitchen a face-lift, I think I can justify new SS or white range and frige so they will match but will not worry about matching brands. Before someone takes this the wrong way, for those of you with beautiful, high-end homes and kitchens, that you have worked so hard to create, I would never criticize your nice appliances, high end or low end. I have a couple of family members who, if their washer or dryer goes bad, they toss both pieces to buy a "matching set". And they are not rolling in money either. Without being snarky - just honest - she bought a high-end red set on pedestals and she lives in a dump, the laundry room where she placed it looks like a barn, and you can't get thru her house. Who cares what a washer and dryer looks like if they function?? I need to get out of my bitter mood today :). Tuesday...See MoreMix Black Stainless with Black Appliances in Kitchen?
Comments (7)Here is the photo of the kitchen before we moved in. The fridge in the photos is not the one that is there now. We put a 36" counter depth with wood paneling and the exposed compressor grill on top there now. In front on the right of the swing doors is the bar with full counter and pass through window. In a couple of years, we'll replace the counters, cabinets and floors. I forgot to say the floors are not the reddish/pink tint. It's a slight multi dirt brown and yeah. What can I say. Another chapter for another day with the floors. LOL. We have a lot of other priorities to fix and update that are rather costly and can't be ignored. I know a lot of people don't like the Black Stainless Steel but I love it. So the question remains, can we get away with a black dishwasher (to replace current one) and ice maker that will match the lower cabinets when they are painted black if we can't find the matching wood panels for them? Thanks all!...See MoreWaynette Bailey
