Hey Scott, I'm not sure if this will help much... I just planted my first asian pear trees last year and treated them with tanglefoot (all of them 10 ft apart). At the beginning of last year, I did not have any aphid problems. However, I made my mesh guards too high. On two of the three trees, new limbs/leaves were able to touch the guards before I could cut the mesh out of the way. Within a week or so, these two trees were loaded with green aphids-- I'm not sure what kind. The other pear, where the only path up was over the tanglefoot, did not have a single aphid. I realize that some (all?) aphids enter a flying stage, but the tanglefoot really seemed to help. I would guess that tanglefoot would at least slow the spread of them from tree to tree if they are unable to crawl over. I have J plums, tomcot, and some apples planted this year with tanglefoot. No aphids yet on any of them or last year's asian pears. Unfortunately, I cannot be of any help on the control. I use 2% neem for dormant and 1% neem throughout the season. I'm sure I am going to need to add some things to my spraying later. By the way, I am just south of you-- outside DC. I greatly appreciate all of your contributions here.

It's been a little over week since I sprayed (wrecked) the tree. The dark green spots on the leaves ended up turning brown, and then became holes. It looked terrible! I ended up removing most of the damaged ones, and to my surprise there is a ton of new growth happening. Probably trying to make up for the damaged leaves. The small plums are still going strong so I think it will be in great shape in a few more weeks. Live and learn on this one!

Have you guys ever seen a few different types of aphids at once ? Right now I can find black cherry looking aphids. Flying aphids and tons of wingless . ive been using the hose to spray the trees every second day but it's very hard to get the green wingless types that are curled up in the leafs up high. I've been starting to prune out infested areas or snipping the leafs off . Is horticulture oil harmful to the lady Beatles ? There is a lot of them and a lot of parasitic wasps even normal wasps I've been seeing feeding on them. We have some ants too using them, last year when I put tape around the trees it killed so many other insects and not many ants. And it needed to be changed out every couple days

My blenheim apricot was like that earlier this year. Those white flies and maybe aphids too? Ants were farming something on the trees. I put tanglefoot on the tree trunk to stop the ants. After about a month ladybugs, parasitic wasps and other predators took care of the problem.
