jeanninepc99, your dining room is really lovely. I hope you don't mind that I have saved your photo as an inspiration shot for "staging" our dining room when the house goes on the market. So pretty! I am really begining to like spare (have too much artwork to do bare). We have stored a ton of our stuff over the last two weeks and unexpectedly I absolutely love the sparseness. We have filled two storage units and I can't believe I had room for it all in the first place. In my new place I plan to be extremely selective about the "bringing in" part. I am an accumulator at heart, however. I love old oil portraits of women, and to me they are like potato chips and diamonds all at once. On the good side, I have solidly gotten over the Italian floral tole phase, due to upkeep issues. I am only keeping one chandelier and that's because it's got the beautiful pink porcelain flowers and doesn't show dust much anyway. Otherwise, dusting tole is the pits. (If anyone reading this likes floral tole, for gosh sake, let me know how you keep it clean! Q-tip?) I'll probably just have to have the mother of all garage sales, and then abide by the strict rule of something in, something out. I hope we'll have more threads like this...everyone's pictures were very inspiring. Joanna

I think the very talented Celerygirl has the size you need for the art -- whether it's three works or just one -- spot on. Also the feel of the art is perfect. The whole room is gorgeous as she has it -- and notice that there is colour there, in the blue-grey in the art and the vibrant green of the plant. So measure out the equivalent space on your wall and go looking for that. And the curtains are just wonderful. I certainly don't dislike the idea of brighter colours in the art, I just think that this subtle approach is so much more calming and elegant.

The blue floor lamp is really "trying" to be part of the room but I dont think you need another lamp in this room. and if so I would put it by the other sofa and bring that end table back to this side of the room. Im just also curious why not have a sofa face the tv and fireplace wall and the chair on the window wall? I would have one large print but that may shrink that sofa, so two prints on that wall would be good or since you seem to like full walls, a collage wall could work there too.

I was totally prepared to riff off the pink chairs. Too bad. You aren't going to be looking at the wall behind your chair most of the time. That is for your visitors/coworkers/clients. I'd probably look for something at least 30x30. You'll need to clear the light switch, so keep that in mind when sizing. I think hanging it with the bottom above the light switch would be too high (or the art too small). The other wall is the one you are going to be looking at the most, so keep your viewing angles in mind when you place the artwork. I'd probably center it between the desk and bookshelf, rather than behind the monitors. Look for something 2/3 the width of the space, either square or portrait.
