Can anyone identify this color?

Hi everyone! I'm renovating a 100-year old house, and am trying really hard to find the perfect pale blue - we are looking for something cheerful, not too gray, but that doesn't read "baby blue" or "clown house". I found this photo online, and LOVE the color - I already contacted the homeowner/designer but she said that it was painted by the previous owner and she doesn't know the color.

Can anyone recognize what this color might be, or know of any very similar colors that give the same overall affect? I know picking blues can be a huge challenge!

Look at SW Soar and SW Atmosphere for a start. My husband wanted a similar color for his office and I painted up a large foam board sample of each - and they looked pretty much the same. He chose Soar. You can get inexpensive sample jars of Sherwin Williams at Lowes.

Do you have a piece you can take to the paint store and have them match? If not, get a color deck (you may have to pay for it or put a deposit down) and see if you can match the color.

gibby, I have seen other pictures of seafoam green and have really loved it. I am going to the granite yard to look at what they have in stock. klutterkara, I have looked at samples on the internet of Costa Smerelda, and like it as well. I will be looking for both of those at the yard. I have looked at Typhoon Green and found one slab already that has some green in it. It is not my most favorite, but it does go well with the tile I have chosen. Depending on what I find in the granite yard, I may end up going with that one. It's getting close to needing to make a decision and I have to get off the fence!!! Thank you both for your suggestions.

You might try SW cherry tomato or if you want to go a little lighter, BM Vermillion. Or F&B blazer. Just make sure whatever color you pick, they use a dark base. Otherwise you'll need 7+ coats of paint to cover.

Have you tried SW Macadamia? It may or may not be that color. All I know is that we had it in our main spaces a while back and had natural cabinets with a brown glaze. I got lots of compliments on the color. It was a great nutty brown that wasn't green or yellow in tone but had the ability to pick up different hues. It was a great shade and somehow not boring brown/beige.

Here, I googled for you - house is located in Charleston, SC, and owned by interior designer Allison Elebash. It was featured in Charleston magazine - you could contact the magazine, or the designer directly and inquire.

ETA: Don't be heartbroken if you come to find out that the actual paint color is not what is shown on your screen. Different monitors and video cards render color display differently (sometimes drastically so), and it came from a print magazine, so it was probably color, light, and level-corrected and photoshopped to high heaven....

I already contacted the home-owner/designer (found the same article from Charleston Magazine). She wrote back saying that the house was painted before they moved in and that they don't know the exterior color. (Mostly, i'm trying to find a color that gives the same overall appearance when applied to the exterior.)

Then your best bet is what Carolina suggested - go to a (good) paint store and borrow a fan deck or two - they'll usually let you check them out for a time. Picking blues is almost as hard as picking whites, but BM has some nice blues in that family.

It might be “St. Cecilia Blue” (DCR069) a color that is part of the SW/Duron Paint “Colors of Historic Charleston” paint pallet. Or “Piazza Blue” (DCR075). Since the home is in the Lowcountry, the owner might have used those paints, which are often used for porch ceilings. Good luck in your search!

I would bet the owner DOES know what color it is and doesn't want to share - she's probably gotten a ton of inquiries and doesn't want everyone and their cousin copying her house....

I have another suggestion for you--Do what I did before deciding paint colors for my house. Spend time online at whatever brand of paint you want to buy. BM, SW, and Behr all have virtual house and room software where you can choose paint colors and try them out on your computer. Since colors do look very different in real life, I also suggest you buy paint samples of the colors you are trying to find. Paint a small section of your house to see if the color is right. Look at it when it is sunny and cloudy so that you will not waste a lot of money, or time painting your house. Good luck!

If you go to samplize.com, you can get samples of paints from BM and SW (5 dollars each for a 12"x12" piece) which have been painted on a surface with an adhesive backing. You select the paints you want to try; when they arrive you can then apply these samples to the exterior to see how they look. I just did it to pick a color for the basement and my son's room. Super, duper handy. Good luck.
