Help me ID this old rose, please.
Comments (8)I'm in Southern Wayne Co. It's a tall county! I do love it--it's all beautiful. Sadly, my gardening days are winding down, so I'm not seeking new plants. Between an invasion of Germander Speedwell, advancing age (mine) and a chronic condition leftover from one of my (many) tick bites, the weeds have been winning and I don't have the energy for the battle anymore. I gave away quite a few plants last year, and if/when I do it again, I'll be glad to let you know. Do you ever come to Honesdale? It's so centrally located. ;-)...See MoreHelp identifying very old roses?
Comments (5)Hmmm, actually the pale pink is the only one that is NOT a climber if the base of the plant is any judge. It is a really stout and sturdy rose "bush," and has sent arms up and over an old rickety arbor and re-rerooted itself on the other side. Some of the stems on that one are as big around as my pinkie finger. But I will look up the two names you gave me and see what I can see. Thank you!!...See MorePlease help me identify this rose family
Comments (5)I'm quite sure that what you're asking about isn't a rose. It is some sort of shrub, but I couldn't tell you without knowing more about it. The shape of the leaf, lack of leaflets, and position of the leaves alone simply don't seem like any rose I've seen, hybrid or species. Does it flower noticeably? If so, when, what color, what shape flower? I'm not so well versed in shrubs on the whole, but mentioning where you garden and more observations about the plant might be enough for someone to name it. Perhaps ask in a shrub or local forum here on gardenweb? Jay...See MoreHelp with my very old family irises
Comments (20)Mandy, what a beautiful collection of colors of bearded irises! Congrats. :) Those just glow, as an ensemble, and make me look forward to our next early summer days, which is when they bloom here. And I think you meant the erosion is due to a slope in the ground, not a "slop," so typo, right? Otherwise I would think the ground was "sloppy" as in wet? Glad you have a "bank" source. Good move. Watch out for those borers. I'm kind of suspicious now, and will definitely be looking at my own collection. They're apparently here, way up north, and I now wonder if they're responsible for the failure of some of my irises to prosper; I've always put it down to too much water (I have an irrigation system) or too little direct sun, but maybe not. Though I've never seen any rhizome rot except on older rhizomes I would expect to be giving up anyway, I'll be keeping an eye out. Thanks to everyone who mentioned them. Joan...See MoreHU-491391816
