help - i need advice about my 1930's California Tudor home
Comments (4)Hi, we have a 1931 Minnesota Tudor. In doing research on it I have found the most information in books and web sites on "Bungalows" and "Arts and Crafts". If it is like ours it is considered a Tudor Bungalow and the inside is mainly like the bungalows I have seen. We are re-modeling ours using Mission furniture and arts and craft's colors. If you look into bungalows you will find a lot on porches I don't think decks were used. Most of the Tudors if they have a porch it is in the back. Our neighborhood has many Tudors and only two have a front deck, both are without railings to keep the Tudor lines. Many people put in a front patio that is not attached to the house. This probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but do look at Bungalow and Arts and Crafts sites and books....See MoreNeed Help in picking out Paint colors for our orange brick home.
Comments (6)I had an orangey-peachy house in Baton Rouge, LA and I painted the back porch and door an opposite color on the color wheel - a beachy-seafoamy-light turquoise green. I loved it, but colorful houses are "done" there and this was 20 years ago. If any of your darker bricks go toward the red/maroon spectrum, a cranberry or maroon color could work well for a front door. Comments (5)Do you want your ceiling to make a statement, or to just support the style throughout your house? Having a bright ceiling can definitely make a room feel lighter, but with light walls and dark flooring, don't be afraid to use a complimentary color to the Swiss Coffee, or even go a shade darker. A color like [Bleeker Beige hc-80 from Benjamin Moore[(https://www.houzz.com/products/bleeker-beige-hc-80-benjamin-moore-prvw-vr~299293) throughout your entire house can make it feel warmer. Also, every room can have it's own character! If you want to go simple with a white in the kitchen or living room, try texture with ceiling panels. Plus, there is always the option to go bold! Comments (4)are you open to repainting the brick or does it have to stay yellow? If that's the natural color, fine (I thought it was already painted). perhaps a good power washing would help brighten it up a bit. I love the leaded windows off to the right. don't ever change those! normally the stucco portion is light and dark contrasting color goes on the wood trim&shutters. if you could do the brick in a dark gray, you could do something like this (except I'd pick a darker trim color.)...See MoreErica M
