Does a food safe life time granite sealer exist?
Comments (15)That makes a good case for standard precautions and removable prep surfaces such as wood cutting boards. Since only one counter surface was tested, no conclusions can be made about if it's more or less likely to have cells adhered. I'd love to see a study of multiple counter surfaces! But in the end it probably doesn't really matter. Even an antimicrobial surface needs proper cleaning and time, and then we're back to the original food safe question with antimicrobial treatments! I know wood surfaces and soapstone can be conditioned with food quality oils, so food safe. I would have to imagine a sealer for kitchen counters would have to be food safe in terms of contact, but I don't think I'd necessarily want to cut things where that sealer may be scraped off into the food I'm cutting. Guess I have another thing to add to my research list...though I might just skip it as we always use a cutting board. Running out of brain cells to devote to kitchen research at this point :-) Speaking of oils for soapstone, I ended up ruling it out because a lot of products are walnut oil based, and I have a walnut allergy. Didn't want to worry about that. Something to think about if you have friends or family with tree nut allergies....See MoreHas anyone heard of Clearstone to protect marble - 15 yr warranty
Comments (40)I have white carrara marble dining table. High polish. When it came from the dealer it stained and etched. Small stains could be reduced at home by using rotary tool with jewelry paste to polish those off. I used Mellerud made in Germany. I cleaned top with warm water and dishwashing liquid. Polished off all small water stains and then sealed with this liquid several times. I use just a regular clean sponge and cover surface with Mellerud spread it around evenly let it soak and then apply more to remove the surface remains or move them around to create even coverage. Every time you add more liquid it will reactivate and move the excess liquid that has dried on top that will allow you to remove the unneeded excess of sealant. I repeated this about 4 times. Let it dry overnight and then repeated the same process in a few days. After about 7-8 coats the table become unstainable. Water just wipes off without leaving marks , same with oils or wine. Of course you don't let any spills sit on the surface for hours but 10-15 minutes of exposure will not harm my marble top anymore. I am sure I would have to repeat the sealing in a few years , but so far it has been liquid-proof. Do not ever assume that the marble you get from the store comes properly sealed- lesson I have learned the hard way. BTW, this sealant does not affect the color of my top at all, I have not noticed any shade or haze of different color....See MoreI just read Shaw Floor through Costco reviews OMG! Now what?
Comments (112)I can comment on Pergo flooring. I had it installed about 12 years ago through Lowes. We had a very experienced flooring installer put them in. He did lots of prep work first: screwed down all the floor boards prior to installing the Pergo and all my flooring squeaks went away. My Pergo looks as good today as the time it was installed. I have dropped items on this flooring over the years: no dings or scratches. My brother who is a real estate appraiser for expensive properties was surprised it was Pergo and not wood. I can not say enough about Pergo. Best of luck in your decision. Always research and read lots of reviews on any projects you plan to do. The time you spend is worth it❣️❣️...See MoreCleaning & sealing dolomite countertops
Comments (57)How to maintain Super White Dolomite While Dolomite is a super tough natural stone, it does require a little bit of maintenance to ensure it not only lasts a lifetime, but does so looking as sparkling and cleanly as you’d like. Luckily, it’s easy to maintain with just a little bit of proactive care. Clean up spills as soon as they occur. Avoid using knives or other cutting instruments directly on the stone. Seal your Super White Dolomite. Clean using warm water and a soft sponge.
