How long do cut amaryllis flowers last in a vase?
Comments (6)I don't remember the cost, Maria--just more than I'd pay for cut flowers. The one I cut is a four-year-old bulb I have that blooms reliably every year, despite the neglect it receives from me. It was a gift. Everyone gives me red amaryllises, even tho I ask for other colors, because I am sick of red after Christmas. I cut this after I posted and put it in a vase as part of a Valentine display. I love it--just hope it lasts at least a week. Thank your for the tip about changing the water every day--will do....See MoreHow do I move my rooted cuttings from last year into the garden?
Comments (1)You will have to harden them off and get them used to the UV light. That takes at least a week. If the weather is fine set them outside in a shady place. The north side of your house is fine. The next day move them to a place with dappled shade--like under a tree or where they have morning sun and are shaded the rest of the day. Every day move them a little more into the sun until they are in the sun all day. Then you can plant them...See MoreHow long do lace-cap blooms last?
Comments (7)The flowers of the lacecaps last just as long as the fuller mopheads do, but because the flowers themselves are different, the appearance after they fade is different as well. The large, sterile flowers (like the mops) on the outer edge will hold their form well and go through a variety of color changes as they age like George and creech mention. The tiny fertile flowers in the center of the inflorescense do not hold up as well and their tired appearance late in the season may be what you object to. Personally, I find the mature, aged flowers of the lacecaps rather appealing and well, lacy looking :-) I hestitate to cut them off until my spring clean-up as they look very attractive in winter with frost on them, etc. Right now, my climbing hydrangea and other lacecap hydrangeas are only starting to look tattered with their old flower heads still attached, but then we have had considerable rain lately and a fierce windstorm this past weekend and everything that has held up through winter is looking a bit worse for wear. Major clean up is on the horizon! My opinion may be biased by the fact that I prefer lacecaps over the mops, too :-)...See MoreHow long do Iris blooms last in arrangements?
Comments (3)That is a Tall Bearded iris. What its' name is I do not know. The most common iris in arrangements are Dutch Iris. Florists don't really like Tall bearded iris for two reasons. 1. They don't last very long individually. 2. They tend to bleed color, sometimes staining valuable table cloths etc. We always have Tall Bearded Iris on our table during bloom season because we enjoy the bloom and fragrance. We just address the stain issue by not putting them where they might stain something....See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
