Help decorating living/dining room combo
Comments (15)MJLB, Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. I may be able to move the piano to the office but I need to check if it would fit. If so how would you lay out the furniture. I plan to get new rugs in the dining room and living room sides and new sofa, chairs, coffee table and end tables, just not sure what to get. The furniture there is old stuff from our previous family room. What other accent colors do you think might work. There is a living room I am drawn to but not sure how to link it to this but it is in Ballard under the Concorde medallion panels more views. Is that a program that allows you to edit the pictures? jterrilynn, Thank you for your suggestion. What kind of molding would you use? Not sure it would work on the living room side because the front wall goes into the foyer. I do like the drapes above the arch but not sure if I can hang a curtain rod that high with the slopping ceilings. I really dislike the short stationary drapery rods but thought they may work in this room. Gosh this room is so difficult. Moving every few years is a pain especially when your selection of houses not great. I really appreciate everyones feedback and knowledge!...See MoreNeed help with living/dining combo layout!
Comments (4)Option 2 This is what my husband is leaning towards. I think it looks a little akward visually, but it does provide both a living and dining space. Although the fireplace is kind of left out in the center on no-man's land with not much space except for two small armchairs. I am worried 75% of this space would hardly ever get used. Although the TV-setup is a lot more comfortable. We do have a TV room on the floor below, but I am guessing we would be spending a lot of time in this space as well. Note: I know the sectional is too large, it would probably be a chaise or something on the left side there as to not extend that far beyond the wall....See MorePlease help with living/dining combo layout/decor
Comments (7)Thanks, everyone! I like the idea of adding a chandelier in the dining area but unfortunately we have a sprinkler system right there so nothing can be added to the ceiling from what I’m told. It would have to be 3 ft away and it’s currently right in the center. The mirror will definitely go since I wasn’t big on it to begin with. Thanks for the confirmation! I like the idea of a new rug but I’m unsure of what size to get. All the legs of the sofa used to sit on top of it. However, we had to pull it forward from the sofa to roll it up for my daughter’s weekly dance classes. It‘a a temporary thing. Should I get the same size rug then or something smaller? We’ve always had just the sofa and no chairs. The hubby thought it looked empty so we moved that downstairs to see how it would look. Should we stick with just the sofa then? Or get a new side chair? We want it somewhat open for the kids to run around. I’m also considering repainting the room white to brighten it up a bit or should I just stick with the light gray? As far as what to put on the wall, I’m torn. My husband doesn’t really like paintings but prefer more of wooden/metal art, mirrors, shelves, things like that. The walls have been mostly bare because we can’t decide! This is my first post and you’ve been so helpful. Sorry for all the questions. We’re new to decorating and trying to merge furniture from our college days! I appreciate you taking the time to respond!...See MoreNeed help! Long living dining combo design
Comments (15)I think the dining table really style wise does not work with that fabulous kitchen so maybe start here with a not no so country table and if you have a TV somewhere else then maybe no TV in this space .The solar shades in 10% will help a lot with the heat and if those upper windows are tinted do they help it does not look like they are doing much so maybe those could have fixed solar shades installed . I think LRs that are not used have a reason for not being used so maybe try to have the kids play somehwere else and start using this space for adult entertaining , I often serve dessert in the LR or just begin a dinner party by having appies and wine in the LR I think this could be a nice spot . I might look at a Saarinen ding table with some color of chairs that can be chosen from a rug in the LR for instance Maybe the credenza used in the DR with a nice piece of art above it The kids stuff IMO needs to go somehwere else if you really want to have this a space that is used. As for furniture sofa and 2 chairs are always a nice choice for conversation . I dao garee the drpes to the ceiling would be a very formal look and the space is not really large enough .If the kids have to be there then a nice looking storage unit with all closed staorage can handle all the toys for after dinner when you are entertaining. Mayeb a bit more info as to how you live ....See Moreeverdebz
