Gallbladder woes

About 2-3 years ago I found on a routine ultrasound looking at potential female issues that I have gallstones, lots of them, and some are quite large. They generally have not given me much problems until recently. I am having some issues at night and after meals over the past few weeks, so I am reluctantly going for a surgical consult this week. Primary care doctor recommended because I'm likely to continue to have problems and then potential for an acute crisis which means emergency surgery. Of course, we start back on school contract August 13 and classes start on the 21st, so the timing is not good--this type of stuff never goes over well. How long were any of you laid up after surgery?

Other than recent colonoscopies and wisdom teeth removal when I was 18, I have never had any other surgery/procedures. I don't have children, so I've never been in the hospital! I had bloodwork on Friday, and everything is normal.

Any advice appreciated.
