Comments (1)What is brand, size, and model of furnace? You might post compete model number. I would get a good brand-no low end model-13 SEER with matching evap coil. No higher than 75 decibel. New and properly sized lineset. Should be installed to code. A new disconnect at the location. I prefer a poured concrete pad rather than a prefab or plastic model. Location should be close to furnace for best and easy connection. Physical size of condenser really depends on tonnage size of condenser. Guessing 3-3 1/2 tons depending on summer climate and your home's insulation qualities. While you can probably get any brand, I would lean to the same brand as furnace. Just a few ideas. Comments (5)If you were me, you would run away from Trane hi efficiency heat pumps. I have had the new unit, air handler, new lines for almost 3 years. The installer is certified by Trane and the unit has a 10 year extended warranty. When it was sold to me I was told everything is covered. I now have a 850 dollar bill on my hands because Trane refuses to pay the installer for work that had to be done on the unit last month. They have worked on the unit 5 times in 3 years. I can email you the documents that show that Trane will not back up the warranty, if you send me your email. By the way the unit does not currently work and I am not sure who to call, other than my attorney. Trane seems to not care when issues are pointed out. They go on selling the units like hot cakes and ignore those such as myself that have units that do NOT work. eddie_brown@yahoo.com...See MoreQuestion on AC condenser unit
Comments (5)A delta service was once quite popular for larger residential HVAC installs. If it is a 120/240 delta service, a wire nut cap on the "wild leg" makes it essentially the same as 120/240 single phase. Since the circuit capacity will be lower that way, my advice is to find a reputable HVAC company to look over the install. Then take that information and your contract to a good, mean lawyer. Fraud seems fairly common in the HVAC trade, when I had a unit installed, a 2 ton condenser was "accidentally" placed in the carton marked as 2.5 ton....See Morequestion about furnace and a/c installation
Comments (6)Thanks for the comment, mike_home. Yes, it was a professional installer; I chose them partly because they had good reviews for repair work online. The furnace is very slightly quieter (the noise really seems to be loud gas jets, so not sure if something is adjusted wrong). I didn't ask why it wasn't installed level, but they claimed that the first too-small filter box was letting it tilt. I think they just didn't make sure it was level the first time. They did say that the initial installer no longer works for them. Since this is the second time they've installed it, I'm concerned that just telling them it's not acceptable again will just lead to another bad "fix." I'm thinking of having someone else come out and look at it. But concerned about how much that will cost. In checking some more, I found out that their paperwork says the ac condenser is a 4 ton, but the model number is for a 3.5 ton, so I'm guessing I have a 3.5 ton (need to look at it to find the model on the unit, but it's raining now). The A-coil is actually for a 4 - 5 ton, so it looks like that is mis-matched, and so they have now twice installed the wrong size coil. I think some say it's ok to put a larger coil in, but I don't know enough to make a good argument if they tell me it's better to do that. Very frustrated with this now....See Moregsciencechick
