Tried and true....green beans xpost HDConv

Having a BBQ tomorrow night. A ten year old and 13 year are in the mix. I am making grilled chicken, a chilled Mediterranean orzo salad and I was going to make my usual seseme green beans..

But....they are more Asian.

Anyone have a really simple recipe for green beans, something that kids might like?

ETA: These are weekend guests. The two kids liked my broccoli/bacon salad.

I serve green beans with butter and salt. Simple and delicious.

I sometimes fry bacon and onions, toss in blanched green beans, and add red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. I cook it until the beans are tender, but cook to your preference.

Eld, I answered on your other post. This is one of the times that I think cross posting when you do the original first post would be best. All the answers will be on one post.

I would of picked HD Conversations, KT, and Cooking. Cross posts don't bother me, unless they are in the wrong section.

Sherry, I had to actually post individually. I couldn't find the KT on the list of other forums that you are offered.

Not exactly sure what you mean? If you are someone who looks at HD conversation and the KT then you would just pass it by when you see it is a duplicate.

I don't really go to Cooking much.

Kitchen Table is called The KItchen Table in the list. The benefit of cross posting is that all the recipes are in one post and you (or anyone else) would not have to go to each forum.

I don't go to just one forum. I like to look at them all. I actually preferred the "All Discussions" that we used to have.

I like to serve green beans two ways--1) steamed and seasoned with butter, salt and pepper or 2) add toasted slivered or sliced almonds to the #1 version. Ought to be pretty kid proof.

When we BBQ we just do grilled veggies and fruits. I don't see the point of making special stove top side dishes. You could probably do your sesame beans on the grill or just oil and garlic or whatever you prefer.

Watchme, in this case, it will probably be raining so I want to quickly grill the chicken and come inside. Added to the fact that I have a small grill and putting all the cutlets on with pretty much take up all the space.

I usually make my sides indoors. This way DH can just worry about the chicken.

I usually do as Amylou suggests, without the vinegar.

If they like your broccoli salad, they sound adventuresome. I would go with your Asian-type beans. That's T & T. :-))) You could always make the beans and throw a couple of ears of corn in the microwave for the girls. That's easy.

I like steam/sauteeing sliced onions and green beans with some sliced garlic in a bit of water, and olive oil. Cover and steam until tender, then take the cover off and heat till the water evaporates. A splash of balsamic, and serve.

My family loves green beans prepared from canned drained green beans, crispy bacon in little pieces, brow sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, mix...bake for 40 minutes. You can find measurements on internet for sweet green beans...very good .

    Update: Thanks!

I wound up keeping it simple. Steamed the beans, then added them sauteed minced garlic in butter.

The 13-year-old ate them, but not the 10-year-old. The mom loved them as she loves anything garlic.

phoggie, I'll bet your recipe would be even better if made with fresh or defrosted frozen green beans. Canned green beans have limited appeal to many people. Fresh or near-fresh is usually preferred.
