I have no real help but here are your pics right side up.

With what you have now, this is what I would do: The large print over the console, I would put over the piano. I would put the mirror over the console. And find something decorative-not a picture or mirror-to put over the fireplace. I would take down the three pics and put somewhere else. It looks too crowded with all the pics and mirror, they way you have them now. Also, and maybe it's just the angle, but your pics look like they are hung too low. Most people hang them too high, LOL. Very nice room though!

The pic (and height) of your four pics look really good!

LOL, that's my brother, and yes - there have been so many times when I wished he could just magically appear and take over the hanging jobs I've attempted on my own!

I love your space! It's so bright and welcoming. I like the four prints where you've hung them and wouldn't move them. Looks like you have interesting and eclectic taste in art, and I actually like your DH's suggestion to scour the antique and thrift shops (but part of the fun to me is in the "hunt"). You may find yourself knee-deep in day-glo Velvet Elvises, but you never know. Also check online sites, such as shopgoodwill.com, eBay and Etsy. I've found a good deal of my artwork at those sites, and while you do have to pay to have something shipped, sometimes you can stumble upon some fab art that's priced low enough to allow for that.

I actually once bought a painting I like a great deal at a flea market for $28. Not modern in style, but I wouldn’t rule the possibility of finding something you like out.

I would also consider the possibility of something that is not art per se. A collection of baskets or ceiling tile tiles or . . . .

Here is a recent NYT piece on creativity and middle age. I think taking on new projects and stretching ourselves is the best thing we can do to slow down time and feel like our 20 year old selves when we were discovering so much about ourselves and our place int he world (I know I said that in the clothing post already.) That concept applies across every category for me.

I think you should do a diy. I would go to Home Depot and purchase some MDF and 4 paint samples. Paint the entire board in one color. Then go find a 4yo and ask him/her to paint a picture of the family. Give them one color at a time, 3 colors total, and 10 minutes total. What you will end up with is a fantastic piece of abstract art that cost you about $20

Over the piano in a previous home I used an old frame about 3 ft. long. I painted the mat with minwax polyshades ( I think ) and mounted three vintage pieces of sheet music in it. Some of those covers are absolute works of art. Everything was stuff I had on hand so the cost was minimal. Turned out beautifully. I wonder where it is now.......(off to go looking)

Love what you have going on. Beautiful, warm and inviting. I suggest moving the panting over the console (which is very interesting) above the piano. You have the mirror and that painting both approximately the same size and the three other rectangular objects, all on the same wall. I suggest a mirror with some curves on that wall somewhere, to break up the many sharp angles.

I like your room. I can see Nuts' point about repeating the rectangles, but OTOH that could be intentional?

Hate to say it because you just moved it, but I think the big painting would be great over the piano. It just seems a little bit squeezed in where it is now — is the piano wall larger? If you do leave it where it is, I’d suggest a round or oval mirror over the fireplace.
