Comments (18)Hi Jeri Yes, I feel like it is a saga!!! I am ready for all but the color and because I have exposed hinges I must decide the metal too! The other problem I have is all along I felt I need to go whiter for this room deep in my gut! But then scared to have it look institutional... EVEN odder the KD that came yesterday ( I hired her for 1 hour) I found her on willows site somehow and she felt the whiter one was WARMER.. brighter but warmer. THe divinity was less bright but cool with the green/blue under hues... so that is what REALLY through me for a loop. My KD is ready to process my cabinets so I can have them in about 6-7 weeks and I am stuck here! BUt I hear everything you are saying.. I have thought ALL that.. but then I get my mom here too saying this room has no sunlight... you need to go whiter.. and since the white I have now is whiter and does not look too white... go with the brighter one...Today I will take all my colors to a store with hardware and tiles and that should help me make my decision... at least my KD suggested that. She probably things I am nuts for not being able to decide... if I had high ceilings and sunlight I would definitly choose divinity. I will keep you posted....See MoreThoughts on building your own cabinet doors
Comments (2)Granite isn't that expensive to jump through that many hoops to try to save it. Especially if it locks in your layout and you can't tweak it. You're talking about a LOT of effort. A LOT. And a lot of equipment that you may not own. Ditch the granite. It's holding you back from making good decisions and forcing you to keep the substandard boxes. You're making too many compromises. If it weren't there, what would you actually want to do with the kitchen? How would you tweak it to work better for you? What improvements could you make if you weren't imprisoned by the current footprint? Don't start off one of the most expensive projects that you will ever undertake in a home by being penny wise and pound foolish....See MoreISO sample cabinet door or drawer front
Comments (1)Who ever is selling you the cabinets ought to get you a sample before you order. You might have to pay for the sample, but I think it's worth it....See MorePaying for cabinet door samples?
Comments (14)If a store only has one sample of a door style or wood species or finish, I can understand them not wanting to lend it out more than overnight. Think about it, if you were shopping for door samples, would you want to walk in and have them tell you they don't have all their samples to show you b/c someone else has them? I suppose if a cabinetmaker doesn't have much business it would be OK, but most places are busy enough that they need those samples. Also, stores/cabinetmakers do not keep samples of every single door, in every single wood, and in every single finish...can you imagine the # of door samples that would be, let alone how much space would be needed to store them all?! [As an example...if they have a small selection of just 10 door styles, 3 woods, 7 stains, 5 paints, 8 glazes, plus no glaze)...that would be: 10 x 3 x (7 + 5) x (8 + 1) = 3,240 doors they would have to stock!] Expecting the store to purchase a sample just for you in your exact style, wood, and finish is, to me, unrealistic. Look at the various samples of doors/woods/finishes and then order one for each of your "finalists" in your exact choices...the # of finalists is up to you....See MoreMichelle misses Sophie
