Need help picking exterior siding colour to complement red brick
Comments (5)dundas, Choosing brck and siding colour was very challenging for us too. I am not sure we got it right, but it might give you some ideas or help you see a red brick with a different siding colour. We chose Brampton Brick Crawford colour in small Queen size. We used a taupe (beige/greige colour) for the board and batten siding, with grey trim. The door is a fiberglass door stained to look like mahogany and there is real wood mahogany trim on the door (not fiberglass trim). Our house is not finished yet, but I have posted a picture where we used Photoshop to show the railing (imagine glass on the railing not mesh). The steps are stone steps and were not installed when picture was taken so we used Photoshop to show the steps too. Sorry, the picture is old, but it is the only one I have that shows what the railing will look like. Now, your brick has some yellow in it that our brick does not. So, I would not recommend the same colour siding as ours. You could do a beige, but not one that has hints of red undertones like ours does. Grey would also be a colour to explore. Best of luck deciding! You could also try looking at the Maibac website for ideas of different board and batten siding colours. Carol...See MoreNeed help picking siding color
Comments (11)Feel free Lori. It was on the rear of a restaurant in Newberg,Oregon and faced the West. They had used Hardi-Plank on the front of the building during a remodel, but tried to go cheap on the rear by painting over the old vinyl siding. Had they just painted it white or some medium shade of green, they would probably not had the problem. If you have ever seen vinyl siding before it is mounted, it has nailing slots which are about an inch wide. The nail is supposed to be placed in the center of the slot and not firmly nailed down. If the siding cannot move freely, it will buckle. In severe cases, as shown in the pic, it will buckle anyway as it will expand more than the room available in that slot! I am not a big fan of vinyl for the above reason. Also, in very cold climates, it becomes brittle. A stone thrown from a snow blower will cause holes in it, as my brother found out on his home....See MorePicked Spruce for siding color, need help with trim and door
Comments (8)I'll suggest complementing nature rather than trying to blend in. Shingles same as the siding -- change in texture, not color. I don't see traditional-transitional here, rather an attempt to craftsmanize a house that lacks any resemblance to craftsman. I noticed you have not started an ideabook, so no way of knowing your style. Is your builder/designer/architect unable to do color renderings like I showed above?...See MoreNeed help picking siding color for cottage
Comments (25)If your house is well insulated, the darker siding shouldn't affect internal temperature, as nsc6 said. The only way you can assure you won't tire of the house is to use something like HardiPlank that you can paint in 7 to 10 years if you tire of the color. It's quite a bit more expensive than vinyl though. Will you be living here full time or is this a vacation home? If it's a vacation home that you won't be driving up to every day, I think it would be a nice change to have something a bit different than you see driving down your street to your home every day. If it's a weekend and vacation getaway, it should feel special. Honestly, it should feel special even if it's going to be your everyday home. You could leave the brown window trim. It would work well with the cedar siding....See Moresuezbell
