Flowers would be a definite identifier, but you're not likely to see those for a long while. :( If you can get a closer (clear) pic of just one stem with leaves, so we can make out some detail...maybe with something in pic for scale (coin, pencil, etc) we could take another crack at it.

So, would I just cut off the rot, then let it dry for, say, a month, then dip it in rooting hormone and plant it? Or would there be another way to increase chance of survival? On closer inspection, there were a few that didn't rot all the way up the "stem," so I cut off the rot and am letting those callous over before applying rooting hormone and planting. PS-The reason they got overwatered is that little tiny new plants kept appearing then dying off, and all I could guess was not enough water..not sure why the offshoots never survive.

You can certainly try rooting them. You've got nothing to lose. It sounds like your mistake was too much watering. You should water the cuttings once when you pot them and not again until they've developed a few leaves, usually about 6-8 weeks for most varieties. Are you saying that your nighttime temps don't get below 60 or is that your daytime temps? If you go below the mid 70's during the daytime I'd root them inside on a seed mat. You really need bottom heat for root development. If you are rooting them outside then try keeping your pots on a dark surface that absorbs and retains heat. Good luck. Karyn

Yes, that's what I was talking about. That was useful, and I actually went ahead and searched some more info on my own and found this cool site http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Grow%20or%20Growing%20Philodendrons.html The Pothos is very lively! Last year I was living in a college apartment and I had it on my nightstand next to my bed and there was a window next to the nightstand, all the windows at that place were not sealed very good so on cold windy winter days/nights a cool draft would come in the window (plus to save money I had the thermostat set to 60 degrees lol) but the Pothos never complained! I'm thinking in a few years when my grafted orange tree gets to its full size in a 5 gallon pot that I might try getting a cutting from the pathos and try to propagate it in the trees pot and see if I can get it to climb my tree (The tree should get about 6 feet tall according to the company I got it from) So far no change in the succulent cuttings appearance, it still appears just like it did when it was attached to the plant so, so far so good! I know from propagating a Zygo cactus from a cutting last year that the leaves may shrivel up before the roots form but so far it hasn't happened.
