Looking for high-quality curved double shower curtain rod
Comments (17)I have a Moen single curved rod. I've only had it for a month or so, so it's too early for rust. However, I purchased it based on very good reviews, both here and on Amazon. I was originally planning on getting a straight tension rod, because I needed my head examined. I had this notion that drilling holes in my new tub/shower surround tile was too heinous to consider. I even talked myself into thinking that the straight rod provided enough room while taking a shower. That may be sorta true. I'm small and don't fling my arms around a lot in the shower. I would have been fine and not emotionally scarred. I finally had a moment of reason and let them install the curved rod. Not, mind you, until I'd been very scientific about finding the exact sweet spot for its placement. It is wonderful. Seriously. The shower feels quite spacious in width with the curtain closed. I also like that outside the shower it doesn't look at all strange or bulge-y. Almost like an optical illusion. Don't worry about the point where the two sections of rod meet. There's a little plastic thing that slides over it and if you use rings with ball bearings, they slide over it without a hitch....See MoreIs wood look tile from Home Deport decent quality?
Comments (4)This tile has become increasingly popular in recent years, and, as such, prices have dropped dramatically. What used to be ten bucks a foot is now under three. If you like it, the best thing to do is to put two tiles face to face and see if you can "spin" them. In other words, cupping is the biggest issue. You can also "sight down" a few and see if they are bowed. If so.....PASS! They require a good tile technician to properly lay them and they are, typically set with a 1/3 or random offset...to minimize lippage. Also, you really need a FLAT floor and a medium bed thinset for a good installation....See MoreHigh quality wood windows/doors
Comments (2)One brand you did not mention is Loewen. In my recent search for a sliding glass door (wood not vinyl), two brands stood out from the pack: Loewen and Marvin. Unfortunately, the Marvin and Loewen were also the most expensive that I saw. But I guess you get what you pay for. Between Marvin and Loewen, I thought Loewen was slightly superior. Loewen comes with Doug Fir standard. Marvin has Doug Fir as an optional upgrade, which would raise the Marvin price substantially. Loewen also just looked beautiful and felt beautiful. Marvin looks great too. In the end I chose Marvin for a couple of reasons: I was going to have the wood painted, so it wouldn't matter to me that Loewen had the Doug Fir. Marvin was less expensive than Loewen. I believe that the price depends on your region. I could only find a couple of places selling Loewen in a 25-mile radius, while Marvin was sold at a dozen places in a 10-mile radius, so the Marvin sellers were competing with each other and the prices were better. I believe some people have reported that in their area, Loewen costs less than Marvin, so it really depends on location. Also, customer service was a factor in my decision since Loewen was not well-represented in my area. Perhaps they are in your area, and I recommend you check out both Marvin and Loewen. BTW, I am replacing a Pella sliding glass door, and having lived with it, would never get a Pella sliding glass door again....See MoreWill a wood-look garage door still look like wood?
Comments (20)I have a fiberglass garage door in white, and while I love the look, the insulating qualities, & light weight (easier on the opener's motor than heavy wood), I wouldn't want it in a faux wood look. When I researched entry doors, it seemed like the big complaint about wood-look fiberglass is that it fades after time and needs to be restained periodically. I wouldn't want to do that for a big garage door. The gel staining wouldn't be too difficult, but applying the UV resistant poly coats would give me pause. A wood door's maintenance would be just as demanding, and wood is heavier (needs more powerful door openers) and is prone to warping (which is why we got rid of our old wood doors). I would think a steel door in a faux wood finish would have the same maintenance issues as fiberglass. It's not so much the door material as the coating on it -- stains & poly don't stand up to heat, sun, rain, & snow well. So just as long as you know what you're getting into. A wood look door may well be worth the effort & expense to you. And maybe your DIY skills are way better than mine! Wood garage doors seem to be the fashion now. Over in Advice, many are asking how to update their homes. The popular answers are 1. Don't paint the brick, it's a maintenance hassle; 2. Replace your garage door with a stained wood door. I question the responses because in my experience, it's the opposite: stained wood garage doors are a maintenance hassle, but painted brick is not if prepped well (is in good condition, sparkling clean and bone dry before painting)....See Moremiss lindsey (She/Her)
