Eastern Redbud -- is it stressed?

Hi!

I planted this redbud very late this spring. I am located in zone 6b/7 in southern north NJ.

There was another, less mature, Eastern Redbud planted here that didnt survive last winter (bought it from a discount website and was able to warranty it.. this one is from a much pricier but local and well regarded nursery).

My question is: is it stressed.

I am seeing some holes in some leaves, now I am seeing some white rings on the trunk and a dead leaf. Overall, from inside my house, it looked...droopy?...

Outside, it didnt look as bad as I thought.

I have very clay-ish soil. I have a soaker hose around it that waters for 45 mins every 3rd day.
