Does anyone know anything about the symbol on this ring
Comments (11)There is no reason a real jeweler can't tell you a gold content of the ring with a simple test. From this test you can narrow down the likely country of origin. Given that it has a 750 on it, it's likely European (18k in the US. A piece with a 750 quality mark would also be qualified to have a makers mark on the piece. I also don't think it's too ancient. I collect antique jewelry and most often see higher gold content from my european antique pieces, plus significantly better quality in the pieces made over 100 years ago. An older european piece might not say 750 on it...but again, a jeweler can tell you what the content is easily. Even my older pieces, which are rougher in construction than a piece made say in the 1880's are all made with more detail than that piece. Celtic pieces with designs as simple as that wouldn't have had the 750 mark. Even pieces from the early 1700's and down into the 1600's would have more done on the workmanship side than that piece. This does not mean it's not a nice piece of jewelry. It has a high gold content, and it's a decent piece, I just would be pretty shocked to find out it's ancient. I'm guessing (as guessed above) that it's some sort of lodge piece (which would explain the rustic design and masculine styling) from anywhere from the 50's on. Personally, I'd never count on a museaum to date my jewelry. I'd count on a historical jeweler, but if I walked into our local museaum (a very nice museaum) they'd ask to do a display of my collection, but I'd bet you a billion bucks they could never identify the pieces individually. You need a jewelry expert for that. And even a great shop can't tell you much about a piece if they don't understand the basics of jewelry design over the centuries. Let me guess value....ok not specifically, but I'd guess it's worth it's weight in gold :oP Not much else given the workmanship (again it's nice but not spectacular given it was probably a lodge piece) but it's a very good quality gold if the mark is right and worth whatever 18k gold is trading for by the ounce lately :)...See MoreAnyone want to see "Bling Ring" the movie?
Comments (4)Check out facebook. Just My Opinion..... I think that you see it all over fb and the site appears to encourage the sort of 'body language' and 'self promotion' in unhealthy ways. I seriously worry about so many 12 to 16 year olds who are committed to promoting themselves the way they do. I imagine that the older generation (pre fb) might have posed in provocative/sensual ways in front of their mirror..... but fb (including my own GD) is putting more than I am comfortable to see on fb. JMHO and do you believe it can be kept 'private'????...See MoreAnyone with ring pulls on their drawers and/or cabinets?
Comments (8)Had them for years for practical reasons. We had a carpenter replace our 70's laminate/oak strip doors with wood doors. The 70's laminate doors didn't have any knobs/pulls since they had the oak pull strip so we didn't realize we had an issue until the new full overlay doors were installed. The ring pulls were the only type of pull that would work with some of the drawers since a regular knob or pull would have blocked perpendicular cabinet doors from opening. We had no problems using them for 10 years or more. In fact, they were quite expensive and I saved them when we did a complete remodel, with the thought that I might find a future use for them....See MoreHow does it feel to use cup pulls or ring pulls on cabinets?
Comments (14)Thanks all - I was thinking the cup pulls for the laundry room. I just like the traditional look of them. We will have a laundry hamper thing that pulls out, and a 4 drawer base (18" drawers). There is a sink between them, with 2 doors below. I was thinking the cup pulls could be on the pull out hamper and the drawers, regular knobs on the doors. Knobs on the uppers. But we are tall so not sure if thats the right thing. The ring pulls were for the kitchen, we have a bar/coffee area that has two doors above it, I was thinking of trying ring pulls there as a little special point of interest. But, thinking about it, I can see that having the ring bang into the cabinet all the time might not work so well. This is where the coffee and booze will be kept, so it will be a busy cabinet! We are doing both the kitchen and the laundry at the same time so its hard to juggle so many decisions!...See MoreElizabeth
