BS or CC Gas Range (or Rangetop) vs Induction
Comments (6)This is something many folks face during a kitchen remodel. What is the most important thing, budget, appliances, recoup $ w/resale? You mentioned, small home that was not expensive. Is your fear of not recouping the $ if you put in high end appliances? If you expressed that your ready for the next level, plus you would want a wok, high btu and charbroil...(you didn't mention rotisserie or self clean). That comes with a price tag. You stated thoughts of rangetop w/ cheaper wall oven. If you have or foresee any bending/back problems, go for rangetop/wall oven. Just remember that the rangetop and cheaper wall oven will require gas and/or electrical upgrade, wall oven cabinet, rangetop cabinet and additional installation fees. On top of the price of the rangetop and wall oven, could cost as much as a range alone. If you really want the high end cooking appliances, be very cost conscious about the other elements in the kitchen. Frig, d/w, micro, sink, counters, flooring, lighting, faucets and cabinets. You don't have to break the bank. For all the money your spending, you should be pleased when you enter the kitchen. I would recommend you stick with gas. I own a 48in CC range, single Capital wall oven, Samsung CD frig and KA d/w. Good Luck...See MoreWolf gas/induction modules
Comments (1)70'' isn't wide enough for an island with a cooking zone in it unless you are OK prepping with your back to the island. If you want to prep on the island facing out, then it needs to be much larger, and have water. 36'' prep space + 15'' emergency landing spot + 30'' cooktop + 15'' landing spot =96‘‘ minimum, and you still will have to twist back and forth to water the whole 70% of the time that you spend on prep. For the cooktop, skip modules and do straight induction. Against a wall....See MoreWolf gas/induction modules
Comments (1)With 15 inch modules, the two rings are very close together (because rings and controls have to fit into the 15 inch modules) and there is no big burner. Make sure this is not limiting either for you or resale. If it is, you might consider putting in a 30 inch gas cooktop and store one or two portable induction hobs nearby. If you need extra space with either configuration, you could build a slide-out cutting board into the island....See MoreDecision time: Induction cooktop or gas rangetop
Comments (40)smm5525, I have posted some layout plans before, but things have changed over time. Here is a PDF with the layout and my organization sheet which details what kitchen item would go where. It's hard to post a screen shot, because it's too large to capture it all. You can follow the link to see it. NOTE: I am hoping to gain back enough inches to be able to make the base cabinets on each side of the cooktop equal size. Because design was created on a grid the refrigerator cab is drawn as 39" when in reality it'll only require 37.5". And I'm guessing on the Super Susan dimensions. We had a cabinet design guy come measure things today. He took a printout and is creating a "real" plan we can use. He sent me a message today saying that even though it's in Excel it's good and easy to figure things out. He should have it ready by tomorrow. I can't wait. We'll decide on what cabinet brand once we get some estimates. We're leaning towards Plato. Walnut with the grain going horizontally. Islands painted blue, with a more furniture-look to switch things up. We're planning on putting in a much larger window over the sink. You'll in the PDF that I have indicated where the existing window is in a dark green with the expanded window size in a lighter green. Let me know what you think. :)...See Morezneret
