Seen in the garden today...
Comments (19)I've missed reponding to a few things... I had to look up golden seal; I wasn't familiar with it. It seems to want damper conditions than I have so it probably wouldn't do well. And, if it did, it sounds like it might spread more than I'd like! So thanks for the suggestion but I think I'll pass on that one...:-) The trillium in the picture is a red one. Most of the trilliums in my garden are the big white ones but I have a patch near the shed that are red. They were the reason dark red was one of the colors I had considered for the shed door. (I ended up deciding against a red door because I figured I'd never be able to get the right color match....) Deanne - I think the little tulips have been there since 2002 - that's the first time I see them on my bulb buying lists. I have added them in a number of areas over the past few years but the sheaf of them in the picture are in the driveway border. That's the first place I planted them so they are the oldest ones. Those ones and are about a foot away from the one that came up in the lawn so presumably that's where the seed for the lawn one came from....See MoreCL Post - I thought I had seen everything
Comments (16)I'm surprised at your reactions to this as exam tables and general business furnishings are commonly sold on CL. Currently in the Portland OR and Seattle areas, CL here has close to 10 postings for exam tables (and some include the gyn app)....not that I'm in the market. :) I have looked recently for office furnishings though and knew that if business office furniture was common, medical must be as well, so I checked just now. As for the Ewww factor, doctors always use disposable covers on them, disinfect regularly, and frankly, when we're examined, they don't buy a new table for each of us, so just keep that in mind. :) I think when you consider it that way, it's really not a strange thing to realize that one office might sell used items. Am I being naive here?...See MoreWho Has Seen "The Post"?
Comments (18)Sadly, the public is too busy being entertained to read lengthy newspaper stories. They want 'short attention span theater', not investigative journalism. The drop in circulation was killing the Post. It's why Graham was making the deal with the bankers. A newspaper needs a lot of money to pay journalists over the months or even years that it takes to put together big story. It's similar to what a prosecutor must do before bringing charges. (See: Attorney General, campaign fraud/election meddling, Washington DC.) The movie speaks to too-cozy, unprofessional relationships within the Beltway -- between journalists and pols in this case. It's a problem for all media when you have to walk a fine line if you want that Public Figure to agree to come back for another interview. "The Post" takes place before Watergate, but I agree that the newspaper might never have had the guts to go after Watergate had it not stood up in this instance. "The Post" was rushed to production because it wanted to support the need for The Fourth Estate to be brave now -- and for Americans to *focus*, beyond the shrill 'entertainment' all around us. TV started going downhill when stations realized they could get advertising dollars for 'the news'. (Stations used to be forced to run a few minutes of news to keep their broadcasting licenses.) The trouble came when stations realized that there wasn't enough real news to fill the time they wanted to sell. The result is the 'commentary' garbage run to feed viewers appetites for seeing 'something' on their TV screens and hearing 'something' ballyhooed on their radios. This saturation is dangerous because we tend to just stop hearing *everything* -- even real journalism....See MoreA floating post office Ship
Comments (1)I've seen the Westcott on the Detroit River many times but didn't realize it was making a mail delivery. I was guessing pilot change or repair technician, etc. Thanks for sharing!...See Moresocks
