Help Me Find Upholstery Fabric For Dining Room Chairs

I am not having great luck locating.a fabric for my dining room chairs. The dining area is part of an open floor plan so it should complement the fabric choices I’ve made for the living room furniture.

My sofa is being done in a teal blue velvet and I am having my vintage 1920’s channel quilted chair with carved wood done in a geometric pattern.

My designer suggested a Vern Yip print but I think it reads a bit dark and I am also concerned that it isn’t as durable as fabric for a dining room chair should be as it’s a satin jacquard with somewhat of a light solid background. I could live with the gingko leaves as they reference period styles and designers I am fond of - e.g. Art Deco, Art Nouveau, William Morris, Charles Rennie MacKintosh, Arts & Crafts but I am not wild about the motif.

I have tentatively selected this chair which has a bit of a moderne Art Deco feel and the table will have a glass top with a base that complements whatever dining chair I finally select.

I have been searching the internet with stops at most of the major fabric suppliers and can’t seem to find a fabric that has a pattern I like with colors that complement the teal blue that I have selected as the main color palette for the living area. If I like a pattern, it’s not made in a color or colors that work and oddly the universe of teal textiles isn’t large although sadly (or ironically) the New York Times proclaimed dark teal to be a trending color in this weekend’s paper :-)

The dining area is open to the kitchen which will have a teal green and copper backsplash if that should be factored in.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Although I am not slavishly attempting to recreate a period I would ideally like a textile that references back to the periods I like if possible.

Vern Yip Fabric which I think is too drab and dull (among other things). In person it reads more beige than taupe.

Dining Rom Chair which is the current front runner but hasn't been finalized

This is a Liberty of London fabric which is based on a 1905 fabric. I really like it but I think it is too close to the blue velvet sofa in feel so it would be off - not close enough to work and not contrasting enough to be complementary.

Not painting the walls this color but this is the color of the velvet fabric I am using for my sofa.

Not sure of pattern but color is too navy

This is a William Morris reproduction and I think it is too dark but not sure whether the blue in background would make it work. I don't mind the darker color palettes of the period per se if they would work with the teal.

This is a Kravet fabric - pattern is okay but this is navy and not teal.

Thanks for the feedback, yayagal and walnut creek. I was beginning to get nervous about the black. I don't know if you looked at the Thomas armchair, but that is quite simple. When not in use, I was going to place them in front of the window where the low red/goldish chairs are now. I was getting them in a pretty seafoamish-sage green because all my furniture in the adjoining family room is cream. To go with them, I was thinking of these aimple mission style side chairs, in black, but maybe now to match the table, with the same green upholstery seats. Thoughts, photos? I agree that none of the above is the answer. The trellises all seem too clean and too geometric to work with the rug, and the ikat is ....I'm not sure, maybe too large. Plus none of the sample colors seem to work well with the carpet either. They seem to provide too much contrast. About the curtains, I think you need them. The room has a definite formal look, and to my eyes, the window as it is now looks unfinished, but not in an intentional way. What you do with the window might depend on how you feel about pattern. If you want to limit patterns to the carpet and chairs, then one possibility might be curtains in as close to the color of wall as possible. If you want more pattern, then how about the colors in the carpet? I don't think white, ivory, or cream curtains would work. I think they would give the effect of three walls in that interesting gray (?) color and then one big white wall. That would be too modern for your look. I also think you do need curtains rather than a valence or swag. Reasoning? There is a large expanse of white blind, and the blinds look contemporary. If there were an array of other contemporary elements in the room, I think they'd work, but there is a soothing "stillness" that comes from your furniture, accessories, and color choices. So the blinds look jarring and out of place. I think they need the softening effect of full-length curtains. Sigh. It's always so much easier to give a critique of other people's spaces than to finish any of the rooms here!

You aren't finished yet. Each chair will need a place to set a drink. That means occasional tables. You will need good lighting to play the piano. You will need some art work. You may want some curtains or window covers. Last, you will probably need to paint. See how one follows the other. It's a progression. CDR provided you with some layouts. But, you really won't know until you place the actual furniture in the space. I will comment that pianos are very hard to decorate around. They take up a lot of space. So, you aren't alone in trying to solve the riddle. If it were me, I would remove the ottomans and keep the piano and sofa where they started. The chest would go between the windows. The chairs would go at an angle facing the sofa. The goal is to create a conversation group. Then, I would play with whether to keep the ottomans as a coffee table or acquire a different coffee table. You will need lamps, small side tables for the chairs and potentially another coffee table. The ottomans might work as a coffee table, but I think you want something with less mass.

Does the chair you show have only one hind leg? I would think that would make it more difficult to move these chairs around. Also, I would think these chairs would be heavy to maneuver, especially by children and older people. I like the first pattern you show, and I don't think that you need to match colors from one area to another exactly. The mind will perceive them as separate rooms. At the same time I would wonder whether there isn't an overuse of this color, since it is a rather strong one. You might consider a beige material instead or beige with a subtle teal pattern,
