Do you have grand-kids, or are you expecting any near your guest bedrooms? If so, do consider having tubs (at least a small 5 foot inexpensive one) for baths. You won't regret that, especially for resale. As for your Master Bath, ask a realtor friend and they will likely tell you it's 'best' for re-sale for a 5-piece Master too, but if you'd much rather have the extra-large shower than a smaller shower and tub, then go for the larger shower and forget the tub. We have an oversized shower (dual heads, etc) and absolutely love it. We have a big jacuzzi tub too and it's nice but doesn't get a whole lot of use. Our overall bathroom is quite large, but if I were limited on space, the tub would be the first to go or at least downsize. As you age, you will probably find a better use for a walk-in shower with things you can add in your later remodel (hand-held rails, bench, etc) than a tub that is hard to step into.

What a bathroom! What a neat tub and sink! Is this a vacation home or permanent? I'm not sure it matters but it would work better for a vacation home (psychologically anyway), but what about doing the tub/shower plumbing like an old clawfoot with shower added? Full surround shower curtain (or just two sides if you want to redo the tile nice and watertight I guess) with the showerhead piped openly from the lower plumbing and attached to the curtain rod? Wrong terms, I know, but maybe you know what I mean. LIke the one linked below (cheaper versions and different configurations are available--this was just a quick google.) I'd guess there used to be a thicker floor that was removed and nobody bothered to tell the toilet. If you're really being cheap, you could maybe get away with a lot of paint on the cabinets and curtains over the missing doors, but the cabinets would have to be sturdy enough to keep for that to work. Crisp white tile is inexpensive and you CAN put tile on a piece of plywood for the removable countertop. It'll be heavy enough you won't need to anchor it. Maybe you can DIY drywalling the ceiling. Just a note from the dark side: We have a small antique tub with just the original faucet, no shower head. Yup, it's a pain. What we have to have in the bathroom is a jug (we have a standard plastic juice jug) that we use to rinse the tub. So no matter how pretty my bathroom (and it isn't, yet), I'm always going to have to find a place for that jug - and the jug is almost always being put away wet (whether we scoop retreating bathwater to rinse the tub, or fill from faucet and rinse, the jug usually gets wet). So consider the space given to the hand-held to be in lieu of the jug. Plus, you have to clean the jug from time to time. So you're saving space AND time AND mess. Trust me on this! KarinL

I don't have any direct experience with this equipment, but I can give an opinion about the functions of the shower heads in the two set-ups. In the Museo set the shower head is only a rainhead style and cannot be switched. If everyone in the house likes that style, fine. If they don't, they are stuck, as the handheld is not shaped like a shower head and has only two settings. This narrow hand-held wand does easily get everywhere to rinse in creases and such, though. In the Elm set, the shower head has 5 settings and the handheld has another 3 settings and is shaped like another (smaller) shower head. It gives a lot of different choices in spray pattern. You could even set the holder for the hand-held sprayer on the adjacent wall and get a body spray effect if the diverter allows two heads to be on at the same time. In my experience, the amount of water pressure you have determines what your spray patterns are really like. If you are in an area with lower pressure or higher pressure, this should be your first consideration. For instance, I would never get a simple rain head style and have it hang at an angle (as Museo does) in low water pressure. It would have to be level to work correctly in low pressure. I hope that I have given you some points to think about with these two shower systems.
