Reality Check: Backsplash installation cost??

Five years ago we installed reclaimed marble counters, 1/2" thick, and chose to have no backsplash at all. We reused those counters with our new cabinets and want to have the following done:

1. Have marble remnants made into 4" countertop trim/backsplash that runs along both sides of this L

2. Have a 12" x 36" piece placed above our range

3. Need gap to be filled at sink where seam split during deinstallation and reinstallation of counter

Note, there will be no other backsplash. Just the painted wall with the 4" trim.

I didn't like the company that installed five years ago - terrible caulking job needed to be redone twice and still looked bad. Our cabinet maker / installer said they use a good company all the time who can do the cutting and installation of the trim. That company just quoted $1500 for this job.

Is that a reasonable cost? I have a bit of sticker shock. Maybe it is a small job they don't really want to do and are overbidding in hopes to not have to do it? Or is the price right?
